while i was attending UTD i stayed in the freshman section and two different upperclassman sections of waterview apartments. In the freshman section the apartments are clean and bug free and you are living with and next door to other freshman which is a good opportunity to make friends. However the parking is right next to a golf course and every single car suffers golf ball damage. While i lived there i saw several cars lose a window or windshield to golf balls and my own car obtained received several sizable dents. If you plan on living in the freshman dorms, don't be lazy: park your car FAR from the side adjacent to the golf course. If youre planning on living in waterview as an upperclassman, shop around. The roaches are awful in some units. One month i kept a running total of how many i killed and it topped 300. We didnt keep food out or leave dirty dishes in the sink, either. Spraying and roach traps didnt solve the problem.

Roommate matchup system is great for freshmen, youll meet some cool people and cope with having to live with some slightly quirky ones. Do NOT use the matchup system as an upperclassman. I used it one year after my roommate moved in with his girlfriend and was paired with a 50 year old man who answered the door in boxers and a hole-filled shirt. i guess they arent prejudiced against older students... I quickly backed out of it and got a single.

In terms of safety, we regularly received reports of cars being broken into and very rarely received a report of someone being assaulted. I doubt youd find a more favorable situation in a similar price range
