We looked . . . and decided to go elsewhere

The minute we drove up to the apartments, we could tell that they were older, and could use some maintenance. We decided to go ahead and give it a shot, because we had heard they were nice.
The apartment that the nice young girl showed us was very . . . dated. I guess it was okay, but we were looking for something a little newer and nicer.
