I lived at Altamont for 12 years, from 1990 to 2002. I was only several months into a new lease when the manager told me to leave, in effect breaking the lease agreement that she had given me an incentive to sign. She said I wasn't happy there and would "let me go". What happened was that I had criticized her to her staff becausse she had sold the equipment in the small fitness center to her retiring maintenance supervisor and brought and replaced it with a fewe exercise machines that did not enable a total workout like the original equipment.
After moving I received a bill for water "in arrears", although I had paid the water bill with my last rent payment. Water billing is done by a computer and is not linked to actual metering. The manager merely stole, yes--stole--my deposit by subtracting the final computer reading from my deposit. When I tried to talk to her about this she became impatient and said she didn't want to talk about it--her usual reaction to tenant issues. What she had done in effect was to allow the computer doing the billing to continue to run long after I had moved and had paid the final water bill with my final rent payment.
