After reading several reviews from many other complexes I have look at to relocate jobwise, I thought about what I would say concerning my first residence here in the Alamo/River City. First off, I moved here from Louisville, KY, also known as a "River City," (quick - what river') because of the weather; I have NOT been disappointed!!! Bright, sunny, cloudless skies are the NORM here and not the exception. That said, SA is laid back and I have yet to begin to experience all this city had to offer, I am fortunate to have solid employment, and do plan to settle down here.
"The Antonian" I moved into on the $99 TMI special back in Dec. of 2007. On a scale of 1-10 I'll give The Antonian an EIGHT, not solely based on my experience here but from other aparment managers that I have visited that have spoken well of our home here despite its age. Managers may say nice things about a complex regardless of how mediocre (or bad') it may be, but the feeling I got from two managers as I look around was good, I didn't feel as though they were BS-ing me. The Antonian was complemented on the overall condition of the buildings because of it age. They had a young Mexican who I thought his sole purpose was to pick up trash. Either they got rid of him or he got a better job, so the trash isn't picked up as fast as when he was here, but it does get picked up.
I had/have a problem with the occasional Momma Roach finding her way out of one of my sockets and moseying across my carpet. I scoop it up, flush it down the toilet and go ask management when they gonna send the exterminator again. My door does have a slight crack in the corner where it opens, so I see an occasional spider or other bug that finds its way in. When the exterminator does come the effect is evidence by dead creatures mentioned above. It lasts for several weeks, and maybe now the fall temps will keep them away.
It's quiet, I'm on one end, I have assigned paarking; it's gated and sometimes the gate doesn't work. A former neighbor who has since moved had the occasional boom-box visitor...
As I said in the response to Jvonallmen84...I'm looking to move only because of the distance to my job cross-town. I know gas prices will not remain low; I'm spending over $100 a month now on gas whereas my previous job was exactly five miles from my home parking. I took the bus everyday to work.
I started looking for another place in September early and am looking at several complexes NE; and getting good tips on the neighborhood and the particular complexes from my new co-workers. As I said, I haven't decided just yet to move. I need to, but any place I DO move to has to at least be gated; be safe from vandalism on my car and have a half-way decent maintenance crew. I'm used to spartan living so I don't need a microwave nor ceiling fans...

Unprofessional managers who don't reside on the property to know what ACTUALLY happens on the premises. VERY UNCARING MANAGERS. TIme to house clean and request a better team of managements.
