The Bethany Group, owner of Braesview Apartments, has filed bankruptcy. (Google "Bethany Group" and you will find a number of related articles.) As of last week, the office just closed without notice, as apparently the staff were not getting paid. These were pretty nice apartments when I moved in, but there had been warning signs of problems with management such as cancellation of lawn service, pest control service (had come 2x year previously), no annual maintenance of fire extinguishers (had been done every year in the past), VERY long delays in rent checks being cashed, etc. Additionally, the neighborhood in general has gone downhill, and there have been regular notices and news stories of crimes in the past months (shootings, break-ins, etc.) occurring in or near the complex. Apparently I have no chance of ever getting my deposit back, but at this point I'm just glad I got out when I did.

As of last week, the apartment complex has been bought by a new company; I believe its name is Licoln. Lawn care is scheduled to restart this week and the maintainence and office staff have been rehired. As for the comment regarding fire extinguisher maintainence, I have lived in the complex for almost three years now and my extinguishers have been serviced every year. Although I wish the tenants were notified regarding the bankruptcy and what actions to take next, it is my understanding that none of the former employees were provided with any answers to pass along. I am just glad things are up and running again.
