I really didn't want to write this review. This was my first apartment complex I had ever lived in and I lived here for 2 years(May 07-May 09). When I first moved in the ------- ----- was great. Her staff was great. There were maintence issues, but they were fixed. There was times when the water would be cut off by SAWS, but that wasn't their fault, but it was an inconvience after working 12 hours and not being able to take a shower. All in all the complex was very nice....
The probelms started when I was going to move out. ----- left and there was a NEW ------- ----- -------- (or soemthing). She did her walk through and made everything sound great. So me and my wife moved out and we did clean, but we didn't do a spotless job. We vacuumed, cleaned the restrooms, kitchen/stove/fridge/freezer, etc. The only thing we really didn't do was dust. NOw this is my first apartment and they didn't even state I had to clean at all. I even looked at my contract(so did the -------) and nothing it stated anything at the time. Anyway we moved out and I was expecting money back... until I got a bill for $258.
I was very suprised so I went there to find out why. The ------- pulled out they had to replace the blinds/counter tops/ carpet looked worn so they replaced it, and because their ONSITE janitor/cleaning lady had to clean extra hard and was in there all day. They listed many other things that just WOWed me. I stated that the carpet had been like that and we were there 2 years its not going to look new. We had some small spots which on her first walk through said it was no problem. I told her that none of teh things she mentioned were my fault and that I am not paying for their upgrades. I asked why I was paying so much and she stated 75 for their "mega cleaning". I asked to see the apartment in it "clean" state. I went up there with one of the maintence guys and they put in NEW carpet which had the SAME seam issues/fraying that she was charging me for. The baseboards looked horrible (stated that it was like that from the new carpet, yeah right)the window seals were still dusty, the fans were still dusty and the vents (main vent) was still caked with dust. They put in UPGRADED blinds counter tops. I went back to teh office to mention these things and she worked with me to bring the price down, but it was still over $100. I asked WHY so much. She stated $75 for the cleaning.. I said WHAT cleaning, we were just in there and it STILL looked dirty as hell. Acutally I thought I left it in better condition. I even offered to go CLEAN it and asked why they were charging extra when that was the janitor/cleaning lady's JOB. I even took pictures to show and she stopped me dead in my tracks and politely stated that NO MATTER WHAT she would not back down anymore and that I was responsible. So pretty much EVERYTHING that they were trying to charge me for I proved wasn't my fault and even proved that what they stated they did was NOT DONE with the cleaning. I even showed her that I never recieved an CHECKLIST for moving out and they lost my initial FIRST CHECKIN sheet with things that were there. THe ------- stated that was MY FAULT and basically to prove it. I am very grate that she at least WORKED with me, but in the end I lost my $100 deposit, $50 I had paid extra just incase and STILL owed over $100. Most of my friends said this was normal but I was PISSED. I refused to pay(not because of teh money, because of the principle, I was being charged for stuff that wasn't done/stuff for upgrades which shouldn't be my responsibility). In the end they turned me in to a collection agency for the FULL $258 (still working that out) and I am about to pay that off, not worthy my credit. So in the end I think Carlyle place is a good place to live, BUT beware when you move out. It looks nice/I have read reviews stating the new ------- is getting all this new stuff... WELL where do you think its coming from...WHEN YOU MOVE OUT. Basically take pictuers BEFORE you move in on EVERYTHING and when you move out so you can back up anything they try to charge you for, unfortunately I DOUBT that will make a difference. Again this new ------- is trying to get as much as she can. The other assistants that worked in the office were very nice and unfortunately they weren't there that day.

The reason I didn't want to write this review was because for most of the 2 years it was a nice community. I was just displeased with the NEW ------- and the way she is doing business. Basically its PAY WHAT WE WANT or we turn you in to the creditors. Like I said I am NOW in the process of dealing with this. NO biggy but the principal is there. Just because you may have BILLIONS of dollars doesn't ment you want to GIVE it away for stuff that doesn't make sense. I offered them to keep my deposit and all and I would just walk away. The new ------- said SURE and we will take you for another $100 .
My wife works with another person who lived there and moved out and he stated they tried to charge him for alot of the same stuff (upgrading the apartment).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an UPDATE to the review.

Thankyou for your response. I stated above that you did work with me and I appreciated it. I also appreciate you having to deal with me for 2 hours (sometimes I can be very stubborn), but again I have pictures on my camera phone that show the "cleaning". Especially the fans/vent/and wall corners/and window bases. Anyone looking at those pictures might give a different opinion about the cleaning as well as the response to the "carpet causing dust" in ALL those places. I did not post these pictures because again you did work with me and like I admitted we did not dust any of those areas. My only concern of the REMAINING amount was the "cleaning for $75" and it didn't look that clean at all. Also the fact that the house keeper is ONSITE and an outside cleaning company wasn't consulted or paid. Either way the bill was reduced by over 50% and as stated much appreciated.

I will let everyone know that the Property ------- did assist me and went above and beyond to clear my account and make sure that the agencies contacted were also aware of the situation/new account status. She obviously didn't have to do that, but I appreciate that she did.

I will restate it again that I really didn't want to write this review (another reason I didn't post pictures) because this is MY review/MY situation. Anyone else might have a completely different situation/experience. I stated above this was my FIRST apartment. As the property ------- above stated we bought a house and have moved on.

If anyone would like to email me asking questions about the property when I was there FEEL FREE. For the 2 years that I was there it was a nice community. I would also have to agree that for the 2 years there the staff as stated above was very nice and got things done in a timely manner. I do not have any experience with the current staff but when I walked in today they were very courteous and respectful, even after I wrote my review/experience above. (I also realized that I put NO to recommend them and this was changed to YES. I was there for 2 years and the only reason I moved was becuase we bought a house)

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 08/03/2009
Dear Pattersonm3, I understand that you and your wife have recently bought a home and are upset about the charges. My maintenance lead and I did do a prewalk with you. As we discussed that day, our prewalk is not the final judgement but to assess the main areas such as: paint, foundation issues, carpet, and any other major repairs. We are not able to make final decisions at that time for there is still furniture and items in the home. At that time, my lead and I did discuss with you the stains in the living room and study. After we receive keys from the resident, we then perform a thorough walk through of the home. My housekeeper did have to spend all day in that home. It is typical however that sometimes after a carpet replacement that dust and dirt does get dispursed throughout from the old carpet. Unfortunately my housekeeper does sometimes have to go back into the unit to perform a touch up. That morning when you came in, my lead and I did work with you and went over many items, we discussed these issues for 2 hours. If you remember, I called my housekeeper in and asked her in front of you if unit #922 was typical, heavy, or bad. She said in front of you that it was bad and she was in there all day. Past residents are not charged for normal wear and tear of the home. However, if accelerated charges are incurred to the property from our vendors, these are the charges that the residents are responsible for. I have receipts and documentations for these charges. After walking the home after your move out, assessing damages, and the work we were going to do, it seemed only logical to enhance the unit. After our discussion, you agreed to the charges and stated that you appreciated our help and it would be paid. This discussion took place on April 6th. I sent other letters to you on May 1st, June 1st, and June 26th. I also called you on May 19th and left you a message. You account was severely past due (130 days)and we had received no response from you or your wife. The charges that you received were fair and honest and we tried to work with you on this. Again, we attempted numerous times to contact you and keep the lines of communication open, but to no avail. I find it unfortunate that your views of your move out are not satisfactory, because my staff and I went above and beyond to discuss and help you with the situation. My staff and I work very hard to provide the best customer service and we care about our residents. My door has been and will always be open for you. Please feel free and contact me for any further assistance. Thank you!
