Keep Looking If You Can Afford To

When I moved to Cobblestone in 2000 I was pleased with my decision. It was quiet, the grounds were kept nicely, the people were friendly, and my apartment was great. About half way into the following year I noticed an unwelcome change. The excellent neighbors I had living around me began moving out and were being replaced with people who appeared to be very unsavory. By early 2002 vehicles were being broken into, in fact on one particular night four cars had been vandalized, mine included in the four. By late spring of 2002 it was clear that applicants were no longer being screened meticulously as they were when I applied for residency. A large influx of children that were not there before were running about unsupervised by an adult which caused a decent level of stress for people who lived there that valued serenity. The new tenants weren't courteous to their neighbor's individual space or their property and I no longer felt safe after sunset (some occassions before sunset). The grounds downgraded significantly within a short period of time. I had my suspicions so I decided to call the leasing office anonymously to ask if they were accepting Section 8 applications and was told that they were. When my lease ended March 2003 I did not renew it. Management tried to get me to stay by offering a good rate on a new lease but there was nothing they could offer that would make me agree to live in such poor conditions another year so I declined. It really is too bad because I liked the office staff very much, especially Cassandra. She is a great apartment manager and her skills could best be utilized at a top of the line apartment community rather than the housing project development that Cobblestone Village has become.
