San Antonio's Newest Ghetto

I am one of the very few original residents left at the Colonnade. I moved here when the complex was brand new and managed by the Gables. For so long, the Colonnade Apartments was truly a well-kept, well-managed property. Unfortunately, those days are long gone.
Since MBS took over management of the complex, the property has begun taking on the characteristics of a Section 8 ghetto project. The first clue of this is the trash one sees accumulated all over the grounds. I don't mean just litter but bags of trash and large refuse items everywhere. The trash compactor on the north perimeter of the property is usually so full that trash overflows into the parking lot. The stench is horrible, and the huge maggot flies that come from the trash heap and into the apartments are unexcusable. On the last two occasions that I had guests over, I was so embarrased by the trash situation, I reported it to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.
In earlier days, the grounds throughout the complex were pristine. Now they are horrible, and one had better watch where he/she steps. Not only is the grass heavily scattered with doggie "calling cards" and litter, the standing water on sidewalks is ample. Just inside one of the gates to the pool is what has become a sludge pit, complete with sewage-like standing water and all the flying insects (ie. gnats, mosquitoes, and blow flies) one can stand. A member of the office staff did once tell me this problem was being addressed; however, with the heavy office staff turnover, the person or people addressing the problem are most likely gone now.
Security is another nightmare. Only one of the security gates works, and that's not all the time. A lot of people can be seen hanging around who probably don't belong on the property. Lately, with the huge trash accumulations, I've seen people-possibly vagrants-digging around in the garbage piled around the compactor. One should be wary of what he/she puts in the garbage. This could be identity theft just waiting to happen. If we do have a courtesy officer on the property, I've never seen him/her.
