By late this April I have lived the Doral Club just shy of 3 years and this is my 3rd and final lease contract with them and I will tell you why: Poor appearance all this time there has been bare, loose dirt & rocks and exposed shrub roots in front of my unit and I have made 2-3 formal requests to have basic landscpaing installed, well the jack-a$$ company in Minensota finally approved it but then I was told they will only put it in if I stay in the really small 515 sq ft unit when I really need a bigger place for me and 2 grown housecats. Also, if want to move to another unit within the complex either at the end of your lease term or during a lease they will rip you off by charging you a $250 "transfer" fee for "wear and tear" BS that's what the depsoits are for. The Manager Carolyn Rowan, (short blonde hair; talks with a pronounced Southern accent) actually called me up after I sent in my last typed letter letting them know what I thought abotu ttheir polices actually had the gumption to call me and complain about how much I had complained!!!!! She went on about how "diplomatic" she had been with me, last time I checked the so called "diplomacy" is not a replacement for quality appearance. If I'm paying them my hard earned money for rent I think my place shouldn't look like crap and I shouldn't have to look at rusting/unpainted dumpsters every time I go in or out of my place. Also if you bring pets in they will make you sign this thingsthan when you move out they can charge you $125 if the carpet is too smelly/dirty etc or if thye feel like it. This is just another example of rip-off extra fees that should be part of the regular deposits. If you drive by on Culebra you'll see how pretty all the bricks and flowers look but that's just surface appearance only. They are doing the miniumum to keep up a minimum "curb appeal" level. Don't waste you $/time here. Also, there have been problems with car break-in's and people breaking the power gates(which break on a fairly reg basis anyways) at night to get in to do this, this hasn't happened to me but I hear all about it in the newsletters. Traffic can be tricky during rush time if you are turning against the traffic, there is no raffic light. Also if you don't care for the sound of police, fire and ambulance sirens at least a couple times a week you might want to keep that in mind. Also not good for the noise factor when the Spurs win a Championship, Culebra is a big "artery" road in this area that people will "pull main" and honk their horns until 12:30 am (happened last year). There is one side that is right up next to a automotive garage and I have had a couple of problems with noise from them, one with music and the other reving engines so loud it set off many nearby car alarms...Also note this is in a rapid growth area of the Northwest side where there are new strip malls or a school going up evey time you turn around....just be warned. Might I also add that the bathroom/kitchen floors are that cheap vinyl stuff that's ugly and curls up at the edges. Also the bath tubs are that older textured fiber-glass that stains easily. If you have a problem with mold they tell you to deal with it yourself.... Had an incicent of a couple getting into a loud shouting fight airing their domestic dirty laundry at 2:30am I was afraid enough to not go out there for fear of my own safety, then I called the complex security guy and when he didn't show up in a reasonable amout of time so I called the cops. Then I called the next morning and told me they couldn't do damn thing about it b/c I didnt have a description of the couple....

I know what you mean about getting whined at by Rowan. I wrote a lengthy letter telling them why my room mate and I would not be renewing and she tried to argue my points. She then offered to move me to another unit without an increase in my rent if I would pay that rubbish transfer fee. Upon moving out I was oresented with a $350 cleaning bill which was absolute BS. That place was cleaner when we left than when we moved in. The carpet should have been replaced before we moved in and I refused to compensate them for it being replaced. I've got pictures showing just how BAD it was when we moved in...

#21 It's July now and the final word is that they did not give me the grief I expected b/c of the grief I gave them earlier, I think they were afraid of me they realized what havoc I could turn loose if the pulled anything with me. Out of $325 I could have gotten back for deposits I got $205 back in a timely manner. I am not shocked that they didn't charge me the $125 to replace the already crappy carpet which means they merely cleaned when it needed replacing it and pawned the unit off on the next poor unfortunate soul. Then they had the gall to dock me $50 for a minor cleaning when I spent hours cleaning to unit best I could. Not that that I could work any mircales really, the place is in dire need of a re-burbishment in general.

Yeah I'm just waiting to move and see what they are are going to try and charge (I have pets) so they are going to use that as an excuse. I am going to take dig pics before I move out after I'm all moved out and I've cleaned to prove the exit condition of the place. Thanks for the heads up guys! Anybody have problems with gettting your deposit back or them taking huge chunks out of it? My carpet was only 2 yrs old when I moved but it looked much older, worn and stained. I am still thinking about calling "Trouble Shooters" on these people but I'm bidding my time 'till it's all said and done...Anybody with me on that?
UPDATE: THIS COMPLEX IS GHETTO!!!!!!!!! I just found out why the power gates have been broken for days on end recently, the residents are most probably breaking them because they are a bunch a trashy low-lifes and can't be bothered with the their gate cards apparently. Did I mention TRASHY?
MORE UPDATES and a few more thoughts I'd like to add:
#1 I had an attempted theft of a bicycle that was on a trunk mounted rack, I was all hanging of the side of my car someone tried to pull the whole thing off.
#2 Very slow maintence- Recently it took 5 days, 3-4 phone calls, 1 office visit and 2 different visits by maintence to get a simple toilet leak fixed!
#3 Ice cold reception by the office staff, I had to go in there to use the fax machine, I avoid having to go in there as much as possible nowadays. This woman's attitude was 100% cold shoulder she didn't even look at me or make eye contact the whole time!!! They know I'm leaving....
#4 My car is constantly dirty b/c of all the loose dirt when it's windy it gets on the car all the time. I've also had this happen a couple of times b/c of the rarely seen landscaping guys come through with leaf blowers and "landscape" you car with a nice layer of dirt.
#5 Ugly, sagging, leaning, rotting fences all over the place.....In one place part of the fence is missing....
#6 As a result of all this and me choosing to move I am already packing. I have 2 cats, one is 8 the other not quite 2 at the time. The older one is losing her hair/going bald on her tummy and I swear it correlates directly with all this. She is going to the vet soon for it and I'm NOT a happy camper about it..........
UPDATE: She grew all her hair back but it took months....
#7 Ugly, construction there are 2 ares that have been dug up on either side of the front entrance with orangle hazard fences to match. To add to it there are 2-3 large pieces of heavy machinery parked there during the day including a huge truck that block my view when I turn left on Culebra.
#8 Now that I think about it months since I've gotten a new A/C filter or had routine pest control come though.......
#9 Problems with graffitti gang tagging, just got a memo on our door clips about it......
#10 Trash strewn on the ground all over the place...
#11 I'm experiencing rude, agressive and wreckless drivers in the parking lotthings like ppl. whipping around corners fast, entering in the exit side, once as I was exiting one day, it was horns blaring, swearing and gangster gestures from another car b/c I honked at them for coming in the wrong side!!! I had the same thing hapen to me as I was pulling into my parking spot someone was blasting me with the horn for not going fast enough apparently. Like I said it's alot of low-life, thugs, good-for-nothing loser type people in this complex......
#12 The window blinds are those cheap a@@ white plastic ones that will break if you look at them the wrong way.
#13 Howling dog in the unit above me......
#14 Couple of cop cars in the complex last night....
#15 This morning as I was leaving for work there were no less than 3 cop cars outside and what looked like a whole family standing outside in their PJ's looking worried and not happy whatsoever. Plus the dog uptairs still likes to howl at late hours and the people next door were so loud I could hear them through the bathroom wall.... #16 Contruction machines/equipment totally blocking both the entrance/exit of the complex making me run late for work thing morning, on top of the it's ugly as all h&*% to look at and I'm so glad I'm high tailing it out of there in just 3 weeks! #17 Porch ligh blew, asked for replacemtn bulb and they stole the little globe cover thing, what gives? #18 People are evidently trashy because they seem to miss the trash dumpster, ppl
's trash wasa all over the ground and of all place on top of the dumpsters itself, strewn all over the area..... Aviod this place like the Black Death! #19 Mini-frat house next door that dosen't seem to get the concept of "quiet hours". #20 This place is really poorly lit at night and looks alot like a bad creepy back alley way in a horror movie.....if you are into feeling unsafe esp. you are are girl living alone this is the place for you.
November Update: I just found out that a co-worker of mine lives in this complex and is having an totally abhorent experience. Someone broke into the complex office at night stole the rent $...they are making him actually pay all that month's rent all effing over again (i.e. twice over). They threatened him with eviction on top of that!! Bastards all of them!!!.... BS once it's droped off it's the complexes responsibilty....He has called KENS 4 Trouble Shooters over it and called the parent company Shelter Corp...They should be run out of town...I feel horribly for my cohort and I've told him to get the H*ll out of there ASAP which he will when the lease is up....
