From the very beginning of moving here, almost a year ago, there were things falling apart. We eventually gave up on getting everything fixed. Our apartment has a lot of problems with areas of the doors coming apart. The air conditioning is ALWAYS either not working or working poorly. We no longer even bother calling them to fix it and are just getting used to it being 80 degrees in our home during the summer. We make do with fans. The faucets in the bath tubs are also pretty shoddy. We had one of them actually fall off while it was being used. I am definitely not thrilled about the quality of construction/upkeep with this place.

Also, some areas of the parking lot are in VERY bad shape ..so bad it would not be a good idea to drive your car over it. Actually, that's how it used to be. Now it's even worse. I wouldn't even consider it passable now. I'm referring mainly to at least one spot in the back that I need to get past to drop off my son at the school bus stop on my way to work. I can get to the bus stop another way, but it's much less convenient now. It feels like NOTHING ever gets fixed around here.

Management changed not too long ago. I can't say too much about the old staff, but the new staff is pretty lame. I have not found them very helpful at all. In addition to that, we are currently in the application process for a new apartment elsewhere. When checking our rental history, the new places informed us there was ..a problem. Apparently Hearthstone told them that we don't live there, twice. I had to call the office and get that straight with them. Now I have to wait and see if they actually follow through and give the new apartments the right info.

The rent is ok, but not as good as it could be. We actually got a slightly reduced rate for our lease. The rent is reasonable I suppose for what the place is (if everything was fixed/working at least).

As for crime/safety, I can at finally say nice things, though I believe this depends a lot on which part of the community you live in. I'm told that most of the crime happens on the 1-bed side. I live in the 2-bed area, which is mostly families. It's very peaceful and quiet over on the more family-oriented side. Parking is good enough. I can't always get "exactly" the spot I want, but close enough in any case. There has never been a time when all the spots were taken.

We have noisy neighbors upstairs, kids who don't seem to have a bedtime ALWAYS bouncing and thumping around on our ceiling. But other than that, I can't hear activity from anyone else. I guess I can't complain too much about noise from just upstairs. The walls seem quiet enough.

I guess I would recommend Hearthstone, somewhat reluctantly. There are certainly complaints, but it's been alright. The location is really good. The price is ok. Depending on which side of the community you're on, you may have trouble with crime, or it may be nice and uneventful. I can't say it's that great of a place to live, it's certainly not the lap of luxury, but you could certainly do worse (our last apartments were ghetto and had weekly gun shots at 3am). So basically, if you're coming from a poverty/ghetto area, Hearthstone is probably an upgrade. But if/when you can afford it, another upgrade later might not be a bad idea.

We were actually thinking of staying and renewing our lease. But we just had a baby and want a place with at least 3-beds and more square footage. Hearthstone only goes up to 2-bed, so we've kind of outgrown it. We don't hate these apartments. Like I said, they're ok. But we don't love it enough to stay another year.
