We have lived here just over a year now, and could not be more pleased! We have nearly 1600 sq feet and LOVE IT!! Our rent did not increase with our renewal. The complex pays for basic cable. Late last year they switched to Grande Cable and by bundling our internet, phones and cable add ons, we are actually SAVING over 100.00 from our last place! I have to admit Grande has provided much better cable internet than we ever got with Road Runner!
The ladies in the office are nice. The manager has been here over 25 years! Our neighbors are great. We have a small son, so I can only imagine what our downstairs neighbor goes through hearing him play. I am very greatful to have such a cool neighbor who chalks it up to "apartment living". If you need maintenence done here, you had better be ready for them to show up when you report your problem, because they will get there fast. If I want something done, it usually takes me longer to make sure I have time and will be around than it does for them to show up and get to work. Our little boy figured out how to work the security lock on the balcony door, so before he tossed all of our belonging over along with himself, I called to see if I could add an addition lock at the top. Not only could I add one, but the next day they showed up with a lock and installed it for me!
The only downsides we have are lack of communal areas with grass to play and stretch out. Our unit sits right on Glen Ridge, which can be a busy and noisy street behind the theatre. It would e nice if they eithe closed off or gated up all of, or some of, the Glen Ridge entrances so the easy access to our complex would be lessened (for the bad guys). My neighbor had some clothes stolen from her company van one night, not so good. And I heard of the knife hold up a few days after it happened (it was in the bldg facing us)...that freaked a few of us out because we had never seen or heard anything. I have never had a complaint of loud music or neighbors. (we probably cause more with our son and small dog). I dont see any shady people coming and going, and I am home all day everyday, working. There is a dark pathway between the two bldgs facing us, so I guess it a great place to hide and pop out on someone, since it dark with so many trees. During the day, it is nice there. We keep our eyes open a little more after that, but I still don't feel endangered here. We have assigned parking, which would be good, except our spot is down in front of the next building, so we can't even see our car...they could rearrange the assignments to put residents in front of the building, and guests down in between units. Honey Hill may not be much to look at from the outside, but the angels truly sang when we walked inside. With so many floor plans available here, I am sure that there are many parts of the complex that are completely different than our end.
There are Pros and Cons with every apartment complex. For us, Honey Hill has had alot more pros than cons and we plan to stay here until we are ready to buy a house. In fact, we had waited for over six monthS for the floor plan and features we wanted to become available, because the floorplan we have has a very low turnover. We had asked them to call us if one ever came up, but we were surprised when they actually called us six months later and had one to show...THAT is "follow-up and follow through". We ended up moving out of our other place a month early, but it was well worth the rent we had to pay for 2 places that month. Honey Hill may not have some of the bells and whistles of gated communities, but the service we've received and the room we have in our place to stretch out and "live" is second to none.
