My husband and I moved in September 2005. My husband really wanted a loft and the loft here is quite large, a little on the expensive side, but large. We only have had on problem as far as maintenance goes. The carpet is not tacked down around the edges and on the first day we moved in, there was a hole torn near the front door (either by our dog or the door getting caught on the loose carpet)and the tacks were exposed. We asked if we could take a piece out of the back of the closet to cover the spot, but Mgmt offered to let us have a piece when the "carpet guys" come. It's been a year and even though we've asked the mgmt and asked the carpet people when we see them around the complex, the tacks are still exposed at teh front door. Very dangerous for our dogs and baby niece. We tried to put a mat at the door, but there's not enough room between the cracks for the door to open. Otherwise maintenance has been fine, and we never really have major problems.
The pet deposit is EXPENSIVE ($500 for 2 small dogs) and there's pet rent ($10 a month PER PET). All my neighbors have dogs, but none of them have paid the deposit or the pet rent, so i guess it's not hard to avoid the rules. Also, there's a blonde lady in the mgmt office that is very rude and not at all helpful. she has tried to claim packages as her own when they are delivered to the office - one time I had flowers delivered and she had them on her desk claiming they were hers. My husband had to go to the office and get my flowers and only then did she admit it was "a mistake"(we now try to contact FedEX and UPS if we have soemthing delivered so they'll leave it with our neighbors). Also, she tried to charge us $50 for not picking up after our dogs (which not only do we always do, but we also walk the dog for a neighbor who is unable to and pick up after THAT dog as well). When I went to ask about the fee, she started talking about things that had nothing to do with the situation (asking about my pregnancy at the time, telling me about her bad back, asking what we do if the dogs have an accident in the apartment, etc) and then said "I know about your neighbors dogs, but this is about you and your husband." I spoke to my neighbor yesterday and after 6 months, she still hasn't had to pay a dime in the way of a pet deposit or pet rent.
the curly hair manager (Maricela I think') is very nice. She doesn't want any conflicts so if you complain about a bill, she'll usually take care of it. She seems to be organized and friendly, but she can't do it all on her own and really needs some competent help.
We live on a corner unit, so it's not noisy. Even the airplane traffic overhead is not really bothersome. The garbage truck splashed garbage water on my car teh other day, but what can you do... I haven't seen or heard a lot about breakins, but I also don't know of a security officer at teh complex (we have never had the need for one, so I guess that's good). The neighbors are really friendly. The water and sewage bills seem kinda high sometimes and those are paid seperatly from rent. The pool is alright, but I have not seen a fresh coat of paint or even so much as a new pool chair. We really wanted this place because we could build equity towards our home, but when the equity stopped, we were told we had till March to use it (our lease is up in spetember) so there goes that asset.
As long as you're not too picky and keep to yourself this is an average place to live. We, however, are getting a much more spacious apartment with more amenities down the street when our lease is up.
