I was lured in by the HUGE floorplans and low rent, plus I was needing to be on this side of town because of my job... but you get what you pay for. I was originally on the "townhome" side of the complex (when driving in, it is the gate on your left and toward the back). I remember the complex not being nearly as appealing when I actually got in. Only after moving in did I have opportunity to really notice the lack up upkeep around the complex. They replaced and painted the fence on the back patio which took a few weeks (which left me feeling a little uncomfortable since the maintenence crew could stare in my house completely).

Then I moved over to a 2 bedroom on the opposite side of the complex (through the gate on the right.) and that side of the complex is even less appealing than the townhome side. An honest description would be "ghetto."

Potholes all over, trash spilling into the road from overfilled dumpsters, and it didn't seem like they had tried to renovate at ALL (like replacing the fence at the townhouse) because the fences had major holes in them and everything desperately needed to be painted. When someone parks in your reserved spot, forget about it... the office won't bother having them towed, only saying they'll put a sticker on the window and "if its not gone by 2 days, we'll have them towed." Aside from that incident, I honestly never had any problems with the office staff.

But the biggest factor would definately have to be saftey. Auto break-ins happen more often then not. And lastly, MY HUSBAND WAS HELD-UP AT GUNPOINT BY A MAN IN THE PARKING LOT, WHO MADE HIM DRIVE TO AN ATM AND GIVE HIM EVERYTHING HE COULD TAKE OUT. THE GUN WAS LOADED AND IT WENT OFF, THANKFULLY NOT INTO MY HUSBAND.

I have changed jobs and moved to a different side of town, and I am now spooked from that side of town forever. It it no longer safe, in my mind.

My family and I are planing on moving to San-Antonio within the next few months. We'll be giving up our home to become renters again, something we haven't done in nearly ten years. I'm 32 and my wife is 34, we've been together since high school (my 10th grade year) and we're only moving because of my job. I've done alot of ivestigating, so to speak, into San-Antonio. The city, from what I've been able to find out, isn't a bad place to raise a family. Taking in account that it's one of the largest in the US (7th). From what you've experienced, would you agree? Also, as I mentioned earlier, we are looking for a place. A four bedroom minimum. Off hand, is there anywhere you'd suggest?

The safest side of town (also with the best school district- NorthSide ISD) would be anywhere west of 281 and north of Bandera Rd.... and for traffic's sake, I'd stay outside of the 410 loop. Not sure on too many apartments with 4 bedrooms, though I know they exist.

I was raised a military brat, living all over the US. I can safely say that from everywhere I've lived, I have never personally encountered more petty crime than in San Antonio (and I moved here from Houston!). You have to be very dilligent about where you live here, or it will definately catch up to you, your car doesn't have to be new or flashy for crooks to want it... I'd seriously invest in an alarm if you don't already have one.

I know that what u have just written here is the truth; I too lived at the Oaks. I broke my lease & moved out after expierencing similar circumstances as yourself did. Only thing, I was not held up at gun point, but I was threatened by an unknown woman who lived there, who claimed my 3 year old son was threatning her 12 yr old son. I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter, when this woman I had never seen before, came knocking on my door while my husband was sleeping. When I answered, she proceeded to verbally assault me on the steps of my townhome; she called me every name in the book and threatned to deal with my 3 yr old as well. There with her was her son in question, she told her son to beat the crap of my 3 yr old if he were to see him again and then she told me that if I were to interfere, I would get the crap beat out of me as well. She then proceeded to tell me that she would retun after I had the baby, and finish the job of assaulting me, because as she put it, "I am kind enough to wait till you have that baby." All this was going on, neighbors form other apts were coming out and listning to all this and nobody did nothing. It was almost like they enjoyed the show. My oldest son ran in and woke my husband up, who came out and told that woman she needed to leave. This woman continued with her tirade and told my husband she would be back after the baby was born; The cops were later called, and they said nothing could be done because as they said, "she needs to draw blood" before they can actually do something about it. We went to management (Apt complex) we were told that they had problems with that same woman before, but that unless she folows thru with her threats, they cannot do anything. This happenned last June. We were told by management that the same woman voiced her complaint about our 3 yr old so we were told by management, that we were not allowed to take our kids to the playground anymore; I was told to stay in my townhome and that if security sees us on the playground, we would be turned in. So here we were the victims yet we were treated like the crimminal. This woman got off scott free. We broke our lease and left. Too many undesireables living here. ALot of drug activity. Right behind where I used to live was dumpster, every night we would awaken to noise of glass crashing & people laughing. I peered outside my upstairs window & seen people smoking crack and shooting up. I reported this to the apt security as well as management, was told there was nothing that could be done. I had a small child & another on the way; this place is not safe for decent family members with small children. If ur white, ur outranked there at the Oaks of Marymont.

i TOTALLY AGREE THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THINGS ARE AT THAT COMPLEX. DO NOT MOVE HERE. YOU WILL BE MISERABLE. THEY ALWAYS DEFEND THE WRONG PEOPLE AND TRASH THE INNOCENT ONES. I WILL NOT LET MY CHILDREN OUTSIDE BECAUSE OF ALL THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITY AND DANGEROUS PEOPLE THERE. THE CRIME IS A BIG PROBLEM THERE AND THE OFFICE AND MANAGENMENT DO NOT CARE!!!!!! THEY ONLY WANT TO TRICK YOU INTO THINKING THEY WILL BE GOOD TO YOU AND THAT LIFE AT THE OAKS IS GREAT BUT ONCE YOU SIGN THE LEASE AND GIVE THEM THE MONEY YOU ARE SCREWED!!!!
