Awful -- stay away

Despite hearing a friend's regrets about living here, I signed an eight month lease in December 2004 because of the good price -- $435 a month for an average sized studio with carpeting and a balcony overlooking the pool. The walls were freshly painted, and it seemed like a good deal.
Almost immediately I had problems with the sink and bathtub. The maintenance guy doesn't really seem to know what he's doing, and while he's "looked" at both of them, neither have ever been fixed. There's a constant smell of cigarette smoke that wafts in and is virtually impossible to eliminate. The lighting is inadequate (and ugly), and the water pressure is very, very weak.
The people there aren't much better. A number of the residents are odd; some are pretty open about dealing and bizarre sexual habits. The complex has had problems with car break-ins. While I'm not aware of any violent crimes in the complex, I would not advise not living here if you're a single woman; as a man, I sometimes did not feel safe.
The office's secretary is nice, but the manager is and odd woman and difficult to deal with. The new ownership doesn't seem to care much about their investment; the grounds are poorly maintained and the pool is often a sickly shade of green. Trash will remain in public areas for long periods of time. Overall, the buildings, parking lot and accomodations are aging poorly (and they're pretty old).
While the price may seem inviting, please think twice before moving here. And if it still seems like a good idea, think three times. Or four. Or however long it takes to look somewhere else. There are other places where you can pay a comparable rent and not have to deal with such a dump.
