Awful Company, Awful Management...And The Building Is A Disaster

I live at 4041 Arch Dr. Studio City, CA. Sorry to post here, but my Riverstone building was not listed here...probably because they don't want you to know it exists. It's been a nightmare since Riverstone bought it. It's never really been great, but Riverstone seems to have a knack for making "bad" into "unbearable". Here's the situation:
- The sign out front, which is the first thing visitors see when coming to The Millennium was blown over in a storm about four months ago and has never been fixed. Basically it alerts everyone to the fact that we live in a dump.
- The pool has been on the brink of overflowing for just as long. It now has a layer of grime and debris floating on top. I'm sure our manager ------ ------has no intention of getting it to a swimmable condition by summer, but we will see.
- ------'s boyfriend has had the police called on him for causing a drunken public disturbance in front of the building, cussing and possibly being violent. I don't know the details of the incident. On another occasion ------ and her boyfriend had a big fight near the pool area. He is not a Riverstone employee and yet he apparently possesses the keys to our apartments.
- ------ tried to have the community plants thrown away but tenants stopped the people in the process of doing it. Those plants have decorated our courtyard for over a decade. ------ did however completely destroy a tenant's antique wooden table which was a family heirloom, on the premise that all personal property must be removed from the outside areas. Apparently asking folks to remove things in a civilized manner is too much to ask of Riverstone management.
- The garbage overflowed for at least two weeks while Riverstone did nothing about it. It got to the point where rats were rummaging through it and it spilled out into the alley almost to the point where cars were running over it. The parking space next to the dumpster was no longer usable. It took several calls by tenants to the health department before action was taken. Every tenant who contacted ------ or Riverstone was reportedly met with a rude and uncaring attitude. In fact they are said to have blamed the tenants for the mess. Once it was finally cleaned up a similar incident occurred just a couple of weeks later, but to a lesser extent.
- A pipe in the South-East entryway dripped for about a week and then developed into a full-blown leak, forming a puddle in front of the door for another week.
- The light on the intercom system is reportedly broken. Although I understand we are being charged a monthly intercom fee anyway. I have not confirmed this.
- There is another leaky pipe on the South wall of the courtyard, near the pool. It has not been fixed. Near it there is a hole in the concrete where a drain cover should be but is missing. Tenants are concerned that a toddler could easily trip in this hole and be injured.
- ------ has apparently asked certain tenants to remove personal decorations from their windows because she doesn't like them. The real reason seems to be that those are tenants who have made reports about the way she is running the building and she has found out. She is reported to have pounded on tenants' doors for the same reason and become confrontational with them. Some have speculated that she then uses her cell phone to record the conversation that ensues.
- There was a recent rent increase, which is probably legal, but we're not sure.
- ------ posted 3-day notices to pay rent or face eviction on about half the tenants' doors after reviewing the payment records and finding petty amounts of unpaid dues which may or may not be legitimate. A decent human being would call the tenants first to inform them of the outstanding fee, but giving spontaneous eviction letters on short notice is a more effective way of getting tenants out - which is clearly Riverstone's goal.
- The doors of half of the building entrances do not fully swing closed. One must manually close the doors behind them, and most people don't do this. This is a huge security concern.
- Many apartments do not have hot showers (just lukewarm). Perhaps the manager has lowered the water heater to save on costs. I understand this qualifies as an "inhabitability issue".
- The building is in an overall state of ruin. Many of the individual rooms are in need of repairs, not only the communal areas.
- The tap water is contaminated. When you first turn on a faucet after not running it for some time, the water that comes out is brown. This has been an ongoing problem here for years.
I'm not making this up. I couldn't make this up. I wouldn't bother making this up.
Please refer to the photos...
The bottom line is: Riverstone wants us out so they can do as they like with the property. They seem to feel that the best way to get tenants out is by abusing them. Apparently our building manager has been assigned the task of carrying out this abuse.

I am sorry to hear about all your problems, I truly am. But why would you post a negative reply under a totally different community? You're community is in CA whereas this one is in TX... is that fair? Many ppl who are looking for APTs don't take the time to actually read the reply, they just go by an APTs rating, which you've unfairly tarnished. Just my thoughts and I hope things improve for you or you're able to get into a much more suitable place.

Yeah that was pretty stupid to post your complaint here. Yes it's awful that YOUR complex is doing that to you, but you don't mar some OTHER company's reputation on account of mistaken identity. You probably brought their rating down a bit, shame on you.
