This was the first apartment complex I ever rented at, so I didn't know I had to get everything in writing. They told me I could move in July 2nd, since July 1st was a Sunday. When it came time to move in, they said I owed a pro-rated day for June 30th and 31st (about $80.00). I didn't know it at the time, but all leases end at the end of the month, so there was no way I could have been contracted to start then. The old tenant moved out earlier than expected, so they charged me for those days. They also told my roommate that I had yelled at them and called them hateful names, which never happened. Always get a receipt for your rent because they will claim that they did not receive it and charge you 50 dollars for the first day and 10 days after that, and they won't notify you for a couple of days. I honestly don't understand what they have to gain by nickel and dimeing the tenants, although maybe the company that owns the apartment likes them for that reason.
They refused to do the walkthrough at the end of my lease. It is helpful to know your rights; if you request it, they are required to do the walkthrough with you. Also, if they do not maintain essential items in your apartment within two weeks, you are entitled to break your lease.
Long story short, the apartment was expensive and nothing special. The office managers were lazy, incompetent, rude, and greedy.

Interesting. I'm about to move out so I'll look out for this. I've never had rent issues. I even handed in a rent check after 6pm on the last day you can hand it in and they didn't charge me for handing it in late. I got charged pro-rated rent from the date I moved in, not before. Also management SUGGESTED a walkthrough rather than me demanding it. I reckon this was the old management. New management is MUCH better.

Yeah, I have heard that the new management is really great. I had Abby and Lois, and they were not nice to college students. One of my professors lived there, and they were very kind to her. Just depends what your circumstance in life is.
