Manager's Response

Unfortunately, when crime rises in the area, it can hit anywhere. Although Sunray has felt, from time to time, the rise is crime, it is certainly few and far between. As your comment stated, it is obvious that the blanco/san pedro area has changed alot of the years, as with every area of town, we can in no way attribute all these changes to one event such as katrina. As for Sunray, we are an all conventional community which accepts no government programs or FEMA programs. Anyone who chooses to live at Sunray must go through an extensive qualifying process to be approved. However it is impossible to fully shelter the community from outside sources. As the Manager, I still, after almost 4 years, 100% stand by our beautiful community and its residents.

They did in fact have some Katrina evacuees living here. I overheard their conversations several times while at the laundry room or by the pool areas. As for the manager still here after almost 4 years...well, that's about 4 years too long. She'd probably feel different about standing behind this "beautiful community and its residents" if she had to live on the property.

SunRay is an aging complex (okay, more like ancient, perhaps) but it's still one of the safest gated communities that close to Loop 410. Our agency has maintained corporate apartments there for many years now, and while it's not "luxurious" by any means, the manager there has worked diligently to keep that property clean and safe, with reasonable rental rates that are still below those of other area complexes are not as well-maintained. (And the last we knew, the manager DID live on property.) Our thanks to LeAnn and her crew for all they do to try to keep SunRay shining in north central San Antonio.
