Terrible experience

The management is uncouth and not concerned about keeping residents happy. I experienced loud neighbors, neighbors with tacky signs and pictures facing the outside of the window (which is specifically prohibited in the lease), and leasing agents that are everything BUT competent.
The current manager, is not well-versed with the Equal Housing Rules. This is her argument for bogus charges she will send you on a statement. "Fair Housing states that I must treat all residents the same", she says. Then why would some tenants be allowed to have banned window coverings and other not'
I was assaulted twice on this property and was instructed by a doctor to move out for my safety. The management would not end my lease early. So I kept my end of the bargain. Finally at the end of my lease, I cleaned my apartment, turned in my keys and sure enough, just as another disgruntled previous tenant has mentioned, received bogus charges on my last statement.
I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have moved out, obviously and so have two of my friends that moved there. In fact, the movers even commented to me that there have been a lot of people moving out.
I'm not surprised.
I have written a letter to the property owner. I suggest you do the same. I have copied and pasted my letter for everyone to review.
To whom it may concern:
I am a previous resident of your property, Sunset Ridge, located in San Antonio, TX I and am writing to inform you that this property is substandard in the way of management. Your manager there has been ill-trained and in turn has trained her subordinates to perform with the same lack of regard for customer loyalty.
I have had the misfortune of being assaulted on your properties twice. Once in July of 06 and again in November of 06. As a result, I asked if there was a way I could end my lease early, as my safety could not be ensured there. The manager refused. I have been instructed by a doctor to keep my visits to that complex to a bare minimum. I kept my lease current, paid all necessary bills, until the lease expired the 24th of this month. On the 22nd of June, I made one last trip to my apartment unit to clean, in great detail, the apartment to ensure I left it in good condition. That same day I went into the leasing office and returned my key. The leasing agent on shift informed me that I had not put a deposit down but that I would be receiving 100% of my pet deposit back.
When I first joined the Sunset Ridge community, I was welcomed by a former manager. She encouraged me to pay the pet deposit as I was not certain whether or not I would be housing my 6 pound Pomeranian there. As it turns out, my boyfriend housed my pet at his residence. He has a large yard and a doggie door and a female dog. We thought it best to keep them together. So, as my dog was no longer going to be staying there, I immediately called the then manager and told her. I asked if I could get my deposit back. She told me that I could, but not until my lease was up. She ASSURED me I would get 100% of it back. She also assured me that my accent wall would be painted by the time I moved in. It was not. A mute point now. I only mention it to express my frustration with your management there.
To add insult to injury, your manager there is insistent on interrogating me on my sexual assault. She insisted that I told her my assault had NOT happened on the property. This is not true. My former neighbors were witnesses. I mentioned it to her in November in hopes that I could get out of my lease. Since she refused my request, there is no need for her to mention it nor interrogate me about something so emotionally damaging.
She has sent me a bill for "flea treatment". This is ridiculous for obvious reasons. There was no pet there. I informed her of the conversations I had with the previous manager. She maintained her position. "Fair Housing rules mandate that I treat all residents the same". I am aware of fair housing rules and no where does it stipulate that a tenant with no pets should be charged a defleaing charge just because those who have pets are charged. It's ridiculous.
Your staff there has traumatized me beyond belief. I kept up with my end of the bargain. I would hope that they would keep up with theirs, whether verbal or written. And I think it is only expected that they would make my experience with them right. It is not my concern, that an employee is no longer employed there. She did represent Sunset Ridge when she verbally discussed arrangements.
The current manager's position is that "if it's not in writing than it didn't happen". Well then how is it that an accent wall was painted by your service staff, yet the then manager never placed that in the file. It's human error. I understand human error and have patience with it. What I do not have patience for an uncouth management staff. She continually complained about the size of the property and mentioned that she didn't have time to give each resident attention. Maybe someone more experienced should take over this position, seeing as though the current one can not handle her work load'
I highly recommend you see what other tenants are saying about your property and even more disturbing HOW YOUR EMPLOYEES ARE RESPONDING. I have copied and pasted ONE for your review. Your property has a satisfaction rating of 58%. Completely unacceptable. Please review the other complaints that are targeted, more often than not, at your management. The website, which if for the public to view and make well-informed decisions is http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/TX-San-Antonio-Sunset-Ridge-Apartments.html
Finally, I asked the current manager for the proper chain of command so that I could route this letter to the correct person. She refused to give me this information. Hence, I am sending this to you. Your care in this matter is greatly appreciated. I will look forward to your response.

Thank you for posting this. I was considering moving in with my 5 year old daughter. As a single mom safety is my #1 concern. I know bad things can happen anywhere but having read most of the posts on here I am sure that NOT moving in would be in my and my daughters best interest.
