Current tenant who cannot wait to get out of lease

I am a current tenant at Sunset Ridge apartments in Alamo Heights. I am eagerly awaiting the expiration of my lease. I have experienced numerous difficulties since moving here and strongly wish that I could be released from my lease. I am not looking forward to the remainder of my tenure here at this apartment complex.

There are several problems at Sunset Ridge, beginning with the complex management and maintenance. Members of the management staff do not conduct themselves professionally. They are overly friendly, in an obsequious way. They use overly friendly terms to address you, (ex: Angela's "Hey, girl, what's going on'"), even if they have not met you in person. I'm sure that do this to create the illusion that they know and care about their residents; however, this illusion is just that: an illusion. It collapses whenever they need to follow through and actually get something done. Additionally, and it is unfortunate to say this, but members of the property management team straight up LIE. They lie about the property and its goings on to trap you into signing a lease. It is unfortunate that they feel compelled to tell lies about the property, it's maintenance status, and upkeep in order to trick people into renting. Additionally, the management does not seem to enforce its community policies. An example of that is the policy about trash. Trash comes twice a week, and people are not supposed to leave trash or the trash cans out on days that are not "trash days." However, the complex is frequently littered with trash and trash cans.

With regard to maintenance, it can take an unacceptably long time to get a maintenance request completed - but I am unsure if that is due to maintenance themselves or a failure on the part of the management to pass along the message. And when maintenance does actually address an issue, the repairs are incomplete. For the amount of money that one pays to reside in this complex, these maintenance difficulties are just unacceptable.

Additionally, there are other difficulties here, like noise. The buildings are loud - very loud. This is not the place for you if you enjoy quiet and privacy. And parking is a nightmare. There are no free parking spots - you MUST park your car on the street unless you agree to fork over even more of your hard earned pay-check to finance a covered parking spot in the complex. That is an additional $30 per month, tacked onto the already high price tag of residing here.

There are some good things about living here, though. It's a good location - right in the middle of town. And there is easy access to conveniences like the gas station and drug store. Those are within walking distance.

i have been living at sunset ridge for a little over a year and have to disagree with almost everything in this review. i have never once had an issue with getting maintenance to come when i call, and have even found that they are willing to work around my schedule because i have a dog and do not want anyone to come in when i am not home. there are about ten parking spots directly behind my building so i very rarely have had to park on the street. as far as the rant about the trash cans, every trash day maintenance drive around property and cans that are out on the street are put back up against the building. these apartments are about 60 years old. they are charming, spacious and unlike most you will find in san antonio. but there is a bit more noise than in newer buildings. it is just something that comes with older buildings, and the face that the floors are wood, and there are numerous windows in each unit adds to it. but the neighborhood itself is relatively quiet so the noise in minimal. these are all things that are evident when viewing the apartments before moving in. if you require silence, live somewhere with carpet and only a window or two.
