Words can not describe how poor this property is. I have lived here for 2 years and have witnessed numerous car thefts. In fact my car was broken into just this morning, cd player and all cds stolen. The apartment complex has done nothing what so ever to help, no night watchman...nothing. I have even witnessed a drug deal.
The property itself is un-kept. The automatic sprinklers go off everyday no matter what. I have mold growing in front of my apartment, even though I have informed management several times. Grounds are poorly kept. Basketball and tennis courts are literally falling apart. Dogs are allowed to use the bathroom all over property. My young son can not even play outside with out stepping in something.
The train is also a lovely bonus. It has woken me up several times a night every night for the past 2 years. The entire apartment shakes and the horn is extremely loud. I was never told there was a train near by, and discovered it only after I had moved in.
I feel extremely un-safe! DO NOT MOVE HERE!

4/24/08-Just wanted to respond to the lovely comment made to me.

I am disappointed that an EMPLOYEE of Sutton House would respond in such a manner to tenants comments. When placing a comment you have to state that YOU ARE NOT an employee of the company. I want to thank you for making a point for me by being deceptive in your response to the complaint. Instead of spending your time attacking and belittling your tenants online, you should address the problems of the property.

The increase of crime ...I have called police countless times over the past two years regarding Sutton House. I am not ignoring the problem. I do have a right to feel safe in the place I live. Being that I am not the owner of the property, I can only do so much. I have approached the office at Sutton House with the safety issues many times only to be ignored or told I was wrong. I only hope that someone besides me realizes the problems before someone gets hurt. The very rear of the complex is pitch black. The imaginary watchman is doing such a great job that my car and my neighbor s cars have been burglarized in the pitch black. I guess this watchman is not issued night vision goggles. Or I go temporarily blind at night since management tells me there is no problem with the lighting!

The train... I do believe that it is only my building that deals with the brunt of this problem. My building is extremely close to the tracks. Being a business woman myself I would never sell a client something with out giving them all the facts first. And yes I noticed the train track, what I didn t know is how often or what times the train passed the property. Nor did I know the location of the track in conjunction with my apartment. That information should have been available to me at the time I was shown my options for apartments at Sutton House.

The automatic sprinklers... of course they are automatic. They should also be equipped with a censor as other properties have indicating when it rains and the automatic sprinkler then would not go off. I have done my research. There is water at stand still around my building all the time attracting mosquitoes and other insects that gravitate to such environments. The mold is growing on the ground as well as the walkways or porches. Bleach is a very harsh product to be pouring on concrete and the concrete would be best treated by power washing. I looked into this as well

I took at nice stroll around the complex yesterday to take pictures, and found my apartment front is not the only one growing mold. I believe that is a health issue...correct me if I'm wrong. One of the benefits of being in an apartment is that you don't have to take care of a yard. Is it not management s job to maintain the grounds'

The dogs...why should I ask the dog owners to pick up their poo' I am not a dog owner. I do not own the property. I am not a manager or employee of the property. Maybe management should take a queue from other properties and have signs for dog owners to pick up the waste. They also have poles with doggie disposal bags in them too. It s pretty common now a day.

And you're right; people with kids should not be allowed to live in apartments. How dare I not be able to afford a home with a yard! Next time my child wants to be a child...I'll make sure to tell him that we're too poor for him to be "normal". I'm quite appauled that you would attack the tenants with children...really'!

Bottom line, you get what you pay for and obviously this Sutton House is now the Slums House. So welcome all that need low rent, no customer service, and apathetic management .

Here we go... another person that expects an apartment management to do something about crime when it happens after they leave. They are not SAPD, Crime stoppers or FBI!!!! Crime happens everywhere and if you see it and do nothing about it then you are are just as responsible (for the crime) or I should say irresponsible. All everyone wants to do is complaine about it but expects sombody else to do some thing about it. YOU as a citizen need to take action and inform the proper authorities. And YES you can call anonymously!!! Just FYI Yes Sutton HOuse does have a "watchman" as you call it. I have seen him walking around. As for the train, come on now... your gonna tell me that you never passed over those train tracks on Huebner which is right down the road ... what did you think they magicaly stopped. Use some common sense. AS for those automatic sprinklers again common sense THIER AUTOMATIC. Thier use to water the grass and flowers. O and that "mold" you say is growing outside your apartment..have you ever taking a broom and swept your front walk way or do you expect someone else to do that as well. You could also use a little bleach.Take a little pride in your front area. And the dogs...have you ever asked the OWNER of the dog to pick up after thier pet. I know I personally have. And yes they have turned around and picked it up. Instead of blaming the management you should blam the owner of the pet. If you ever read the letters that come to our doors every month you will see that all of us are informed of things that need to be addressed. Young son... he shouldn't be playing outside in apartment complex its an APARTMENT. If you wanted a place for him to play then you should have looked for a place that has a playground for kids. Every where you choose to live is going to have something you are dissatisfied with. Thats a little thing I called reality.

I agree with this person who has had it with the management and managing company, because they are no better. As far as contacting SAPD or getting help from our "courtesy officer", please...that's a joke. I would like to know what time of the day you have seen the "watchman" patrol the area because I am up at all hours of the day and night and never have I seen anybody. That is why there is so much noise and vandelism going on in there, so I can't wait for my lease to end. I am one of the most low key, responsible tenants any apartment can have but, even with my concerns taken to those in charge, nothing has changed. As far as the newsletter being used to address these issues..it takes more involved and professional management and staff to really make changes, it's not going to happen with a piece of paper. Now that is "reality". We pay for services that we can get anywhere else..they should take care of people while living there, just like they they acted to care when they tried to get the contract signed by us.
