A really expensive dorm

If you're in college and daddy's willing to foot the bill, or if you just have an off-hours job, this place may be for you. I'll start out with what's right with the place:
-The grounds are really well-kept and the buildings look great. I never experienced any of the "owners not cleaning up after their dogs" thing, but most of the people around me had dogs the size of mayflies anyway so maybe I just never noticed.
-It's relatively new, so all the apartments and appliances can't have that much wear.
-The pool and office areas are like a resort - really beautiful.
-If you get a garage, they're a pretty good size. Enough for a sedan, two motorcycles, plus a workbench and a few racks.
-Close to two major highways, so you're within half an hour of just about anything in San Antonio. Plus the immediate area is packed with stores and restaurants, so most of what you need is only a few minutes away.
-Everybody else has a nicer car than you, so I guess no worries about somebody breaking into your car.

And now what's wrong with the place:
-It's not so much an apartment as a dorm with no soundproofing. Pray that you get neighbors on the same schedule as you. More on that later.
-Price. I've since moved out and for less than $100 more per month I have my own house that's about 3x bigger than the apartment.
-Parking sucked. I had a garage but somebody had the bright idea of painting white lines outside my row of garages. So there were more than a few times I'd be late to work or an appointment because people would park in front of the garage overnight because it looked like a parking spot, somehow not realizing that somebody might actually be keeping a car in there.
-The building quality isn't as great as it first appears. Padding under the carpeting started seperating before we even moved in, there were boot marks around the bath from the builders that wouldn't come off, formica on the counters looked like it was cut by a 3 year old, and the cable guy had to come out 4 times because the cable wiring was screwed up when the place was being built.
-Being pretty new, there are still some building materials laying around and waiting to puncture your tires - happened to me twice. It isn't nearly as bad as it was a year ago and might be a relative non-issue now though.
-The apartments are smaller than what they report on the website, or at least ours was. We bought our furniture to fit the apartment with decent clearance on either side of everything. When we moved in everything fit within an inch or so of the walls and doorjambs, if it fit at all.

I'd say living here would be great if you're a college student, but I'm in the military and my girlfriend works on a morning TV show, so we both have to get up pretty early. Unfortunately everyone else who was around/above us was in college, so it was like living in a dorm - parties on weekends, and a lot of late and noisy nights. Judging by the age of most of the other people walking around I'm guessing that a good percentage of the tenants are also in college as well.
Calls to the courtesy desk were a waste of time. They didn't have numbers to any of the apartments, so they in turn would have to call the on-site security officer. However, the officer is actually an off-duty SAPD officer who lives there for free in exchange for dealing with noise complaints and such. This means that the last thing he wants to do is get up in the middle of the night to walk across the complex to tell somebody to shut up. So after about the 2nd call he stops showing up, the noise never ends and the noisy tenants don't even realize they're doing anything wrong because they never get any calls about it. Confronting someone in the office about the guy above us who was making most of the noise resulted in us almost getting blamed for "propping a nail up behind the guy's tire so it would pop when he moved his car the next morning." (See the above mention of construction materials and my own tires.) This happened to be the same guy who has yet to fix the headlight he drunkenly smashed out on New Year's, and ironically heard that nail popping his tire when he had to push-start it in the morning after he killed the battery. And he drives a Porsche. But I digress... Suggesting something needs to be fixed with how they do things to someone in the office usually results in nothing except for them getting snappy with you.
Our particular stay there was one long, expensive sleep deprivation study. But hey... the pool's nice.
