Die Oaks Die

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I can't even believe UTSA actually keeps these apartments around. The entire school would be better off if they just demolished them and put them out of their misery, because that's exactly what it was like living there: misery.
I lived in Phase 1 and its like walking into a fifty cent motel room. The furniture is scuffed and looks like it was bought at a garage sale in one of those markets downtown. The carpet is shaggy and ALWAYS dirty. Vacuuming helps none at all. The layout of my room had it so the bathroom door was in my room even though it was a four bedroom (not the layout shown on their deceivingly nice website), so my room looked like a matchbox because I couldn't put anything on an entire wall because of the way it was set up. The appliances suck and rarely work right, and you could call the bathroom a greenhouse with the amount of mold that grows there. I scrubbed it every two weeks and it was still disgusting by the end of my stay. Oh and the water heater will decide to break several times a year, so you have icy cold water for sometimes a week. Don't worry, University Oaks will send you a notice!(probably once you've gone to the rec, had a great workout, then came home all sweaty, and realized, no matter how far you turn the nozzle towards red, it doesn't get even luke warm) Such thoughtful people.
Maintenance was a pain too. They decide to come in whenever they want and do whatever they please. They change the air filters often and don't even knock! They just come on in. Good thing I don't like dancing around in my underwear. They don't really "fix" anything that breaks either.
The people in the office are the rudest people I have EVER had the displeasure of being forced to talk to. They constantly sent me over late bills, and when I inquired in the office, they said they 'misplaced my check' and then conveniently found it again. Then they said it was my fault because I didn't put my apartment # on the check. I guess they were too lazy to just look my name up in their files.
Good luck if your classes require the internet at all since its hell trying to set it up in the first place and then it goes out for weeks at a time. Don't bother trying to talk to the office about it because all they do is give you the number for some crappy internet provider they use who always calls you when you're in class and then never returns the phone calls after that.
Neighbors are ridiculously noisy. You can hear someone practically brushing their teeth, so imagine when they decide to play instruments or listen to rap music! Nightmare!
Parking is my only non-complaint, as I lived by the basketball courts so I didn't have to walk a mile to my car. I'd visit a friend in Phase 3 however and would sometimes have to park four buildings down.
There is a laundry place on site. Its kind of a pain to have to leave the apartment and walk to do laundry and then trust no one if going to steal your pants. Plus you have to pay upwards to a couple dollars a load to wash and dry.
The only, and I mean ONLY nice thing I can say for this place is the convenience of location. I really miss being able to just walk to campus in ten minutes or less. And the rec is within walking distance too so you don't have to worry about parking. You do have to worry about theft though! It seems once a week, someones car was getting broken into so if you do decide to stay here, don't leave valuables in your car.
Its no wonder only freshman stay here because no one else is that naive! I'd recommend any close off campus apartments like Hill Country Place or the Reserve or Outpost.
