I went on a tour of the property a month or so ago. As I pulled up, two college aged boys were blasting offensive music from their jeep, and right in front of the leasing office. That was almost enough to make me not want to bother with the property. The man who showed me around was very polite. Every time I asked about noise complaints or college parties I was told,"Oh no, we do NOT tolerate that type of behavior here." It was beautiful, quite, and I was glad to see more than one tall tree in this city.
Well! I was just on SAPD's call response page to match up repeated apartment complex calls to their corresponding apartment names, so as not to bother touring there. I saw that Village at Shavano had quite a few calls in September, including one for a fight at the pool of all places. They were on my short list of places to move in a few months. Now that complex no longer makes the cut.

Relying on calls from police can be misleading....it means that the folks are aware of you and bother to call and yes here the community has some "nosy" neighbors that call the police but really this "over protective" attitude actually makes the place a better place to live rather that the other way around...

Relying on calls from the police can be misleading? What exactly does that mean? I happen to have several friends who are police officers and have considered calling them to take care of problems that the onsite officer can't seem to get to. This complex is VERY noisy. I think that people who pay rent to live in a gated complex have every right to be "over protective"...right? It's just another case of management not living onsite and dealing with the crap that the tenants have to deal with. Good choice not moving in here.

When we lived there, our neighbors shared a wall with our bedroom and they constantly had loud music on. After chatting with them and getting no change in behavior, we complained to management. After the third complain to management, they were kicked out. It was fair and the problem was dealt with appropriately, so I would not let a few calls to cops dissuade you from living there, it just means people are calling the cops because they don't tolerate loud music late at night.

I've lived in this complex since August 2008 and I've only had 2 noise complaints the entire time. The first time was the pool incident, I don't know much but all I heard was a drunk guy yelling curse words in the middle of the day and within 10 minutes the cops were there and within 20 min it was quite again. The second time was with a neighbor who turned their base up so high I could hear it over my TV. About 20 min after I called the answering service, SAPD was there and took care of it. It really isn't that bad. The walls may be thin, but we haven't had any major issues.
