I was one of the first residents who moved into this complex. At first, I had delusions of grandeur. It all seemed too good to be true. Great landscaping, lots of parking, good lighting.
As neighbors moved in around me, I learned how poor the insulation was. I can hear EVERYTHING from those beside and below me. I hear doors closing from across the hall. It is miserable.
After I'd lived at this apartment community for a while, I received notice that the complex decided to apply for housing assitance stuff. Simultaneously, they raised rent prices like crazy. I guess it worked out because now they're receiving lots of government funding for all the low income families. Meanwhile, I am paying $50 more a month than when I started, and if I weren't moving at the end of the month, it would've gone up another $25 per month.
They went to a system of assigned parking spaces and never gave me one. I called, I questioned, I complained -- and it took almost 2 years before I got a spot...that is 2 buildings down from where I live. Before getting my assigned space, I had to park clear across the complex most nights, and then walk in the dark by myself countless nights. The lights aren't kept up, so it is often pitch black.
In the 3 years I've lived here, my apartment has never once been sprayed for pests. I have had to do that myself. Any maintenance requests that have been met have taken entirely too long. And if I didn't lock the deadbolt without outside access, I would've been walked in while in the shower. Instead, I was scared half to death by the nonstop banging on the door and shouts of "I know you're in there."
The landscaping is pretty. It's not pretty, however, that they come at 7:00 a.m. to weed eat, mow, and make noise.

P.S. - I was surprised to get a cleaning bill of $150 in the mail (at my new address) a week after I turned in my keys -- which was still days before the end of my lease. The girl who did the final walk-through with me gushed over how clean it was and asked if I wanted a job at the apartment complex. Apparently the going rate for a steam cleaner and a gallon of paint is $150. Silly me.
I drove across town and paid the bill in person with a check. It took a month for the check to clear through my account because they'd held it for some reason. But I knew it cleared my account so I didn't give Lost Creek another thought.
Until August, when I began receiving letters and phone calls from a collection agency who was harrassing me over this debt that I'd paid immediately. It's been three months and I'm still not 100% sure the issue has been resolved. The woman I spoke with from Lost Creek said they'd applied my check to another apartment. WHAT?! Yeah...apparently another resident had the same first and last initials as me. I can see how confusing that would be. NOT.
This is totally inexcuseable and unwarranted -- and yet I have no recourse.
