I moved into The Villages in February. One month after I moved in I got attacked on my front porch. The police took 20 minutes to get there, while I was hiding in my bathroom because the guy would not give up and was trying to break in after he accosted me. I made a police report and presented it to management the next day. They gave me hell for wanting to switch apartments, and did NOTHING to upgrade security. Then they had the gall to tell my lawyer that the attack was my fault JUST BECAUSE I SAID HELLO TO THE GUY. A couple months later they locked me out of my apartment and took my major appliances (TV, DVD player, stereo, speakers, etc.) as "a lien" for what they said was my failure to pay rent. The only thing is I DID pay, and I had the check stub to prove it. They did not offer an apology, but instead still made me pay over $100 dollars in "storage and delivery" fees for MY things. I also had to pay their court fees because they actually SUED me for my rent (that I had already paid). If you're thinking I should have gotten a lawyer, I did. She was voted one of the best lawyers in the state of Texas and even she could'nt reason with the management. She told me that the lease is iron clad, and even though they tell you its a standard Texas lease, its not. They've added a bunch of clauses that basically assure that they are not liable for anything, even if its an error on their part. I have already successfully talked 4 people out of signing a lease there and I will continue to do so. The maintenence is awful and unresponsive, and the security is an abomination. The security "gate" is TIED OPEN to a tree. I've only seen our 24-hour security guard once. You might have seem him too, but mistaken him for a homeless man like many other residents. He is about 5 feet tall, about 90 pounds and OLD. I am not the only one who hates this place. I've talked to 2 other people who were attacked and the apartments did nothing about it. My lawyer told me she would rather live in a box than sign a lease here. There is so much more but not enough room to tell about it all. I had to learn the hard way, I hope you don't have to.
