A beautiful community

OK, so I was a little unsure about the orange paint when it first went up. But when all the trim was done in the contrasting white, and when all the landscaping was mature and blooming, our community turned into quite the gem. Our apartment is one of the larger three bedroom townhomes and we have nearly 1600 sq ft of space! It's really nice. The appliances and cabinets are really old, but serviceable. You don't find new buildings with this much space at this price, so it's a give-and-take. I've read the past reviews and I do feel sorry for those neighbors who've had so many atrocious problems, but I felt apt hunters should know there is a brighter side to life at the Villages. My advice would be to walk the community in the evening to see where you feel safest and to see where it's quiet (if it's quiet you want). Try to choose a spot where there is ample parking, because I know that seems to be a big problem in some areas of the complex. I don't know if you'll have the option anymore because so many people have recently moved in, but my husband and I were allowed to take a list of available apartments with us as we walked the complex and then we just told them which one we wanted and put a deposit on it. We chose the location and we love it. We have renewed our lease.
Yes, there are issues with the dryers in the complex. It has something to do with the ancient ducts that lead to the dryer. I don't know how safe it is, but we've lived with it for over a year. You just get used to drying your clothes twice before they are ready to wear. Hey, at least we have a rent-free washer and dryer in the apartment. I'd take that over a washateria any day. Our other maintenance issues were handled in a very timely manner. We have no ant problems or insect issues and we are lucky in that our neighbors are quiet and stick to themselves. In fact, everyone I've met around here is really nice. There are many families due to the size of the apartments, which is nice.
Don't pass over these apartments as an option just because of the negative reviews. I firmly believe you make your own fate. So far, my experience has been mostly wonderful. What will you make of yours'

Just wanted to say that there are some very nice people in this community, and we had a huge floor plan. It was NEVER about all the tenants, but the managements reaction to situations that occured. That is the end of the story. I can't believe people continue to "settle" for stuff like this. But hey, if you are happy... good. I mean that seriously, and with no sarcasm meant in any way. I on the other hand know that there is better, and yes in the same price range. I know because I have looked and found quite a few choices. Hope you enjoy your stay here for the next year. Good luck.

Feel free to let me know what those few choices are. Seems like every apartment in San Antonio has several complaints from former/present tenants. Strange how in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and even Lubbock, you can find apartments that are of high standards. Looks like the only option is to settle, unless I'm told otherwise.

I agree about the SA apt search. It yeilded nothing better for me and my husband either, which is why we chose VCC--it had more bang for the buck. The nicer (newer) ones lack space and cost a bundle. We weren't willing to pay more than we paid for our large 3-bedroom for something half the size. Mainly because we're renting. It's a waste to throw money away on something small. It's generally a waste to rent, period, but you gotta do what you gotta do. And honestly, it really does come down to what you want to settle on whenever you are renting apartments. I want to point out to those who fear the management will be kind when renting you the place but then forget you once you're in: The manager and staff at VCC were very kind when I needed to break my recently renewed lease and move to another city for a new job. They checked with Trinity (the owners) and we were able to transfer our lease to a Trinity-owned property in the new city with very little hassle. They really helped make our move less costly and while it still wasn't cheap, I don't have a huge blot on my renting record from a broken lease. They were extremely helpful and willing to work with me as best they could. In fact, I've never had a negative experience with the staff at VCC. I really think if you have a problem and go to them for help with an open attitude, you will have a better experience. No one likes to deal with irate or rude people. I have no idea how those who've had negative experiences reacted to their problems, but I can guess that the stress of the situation might have colored their judgement. If you are looking for large apartments at bargain prices with good service and nice amenities, you will like VCC. Just be sure to follow my aforementioned advice when choosing your new apt home in the complex. Not all of the apartments are equal in quality--there are important factors to consider like parking and noise. Good luck in your search!
