My Own Experience
From: SattireDate posted: 12/20/2006
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
i want to write about my experience in detail, but my overall assumation- it's pretty okay. there are bad things...and good things.
************
we visited an apartment finder agent to help us find someplace close to USAA and soon after we moved in here.
there was a move in special- $99.00 total move in, but it's our first apartment and we had no credit so what we worked out was a $200.00 deposit and one month of paid rent, although we had to pay the second month upfront, it wasn't bad.
we moved in and i was pleased with the over all look, the only thing dispointing was the kitchen, the style was old, not modern at all and it needed a bit of cleaning and was small. but i expected a one bedroom to be a lot smaller.
we really would like a dog or cat, but the pet deposit is a couple hundred, which we don't have so we opted for pets that could be kept in a cage, those are allowed.
we don't drive, don't own any vehicals so parking is not a big deal for us, they offer covered parking for a fee. when friends come over they never have to park too far from my apartment or building though.
right outside the apartment complex is a bus stop, which we do frequent, which i like but i'm sure the handicapped and elderly would have problems with this as the walk from the complex down to the bus stop is sort of long and is on a slope, going down to the bus stop- easy, coming back- not so easy. especially after a long day of work or shopping. but one bus ride will take me to just about any resturant, to a Target and HEB and other useful places like a pet store, tattoo shop, liqour store(i drink:), hair salons and the Humane Society (i volunteer:).
a convience store right across the street from the complex, which is convienent, they carry dairy products, and laundry detergent and have an ATM and sell money orders.
there is a laundry facility here, with ceiling fans to relieve the dryer heat. it's a buck a load to wash and dry clothes, but the dryers are big so usually two loads you wash can be one load you dry :)
maintentence exists and even work on the visual upkeep, the grass is cut and tenents are constantly being asked to pick up after their pets.(meaning some tenents can afford pet deposits but are sloppy and also that management cares about the overall look of the place)
at the beggining of summer i started noticing little millipedes ever now and then... i hate bugs and spiders of any kind, but these were few and not too bad... until one day i found four and i started to look closer... i found dozens...some alive, most of them dead. i freaked out and called my boyfriend who came and cleaned them all up, we wondered what management would do about it.(watching The People's Court left me doubtful they'd do anything) i took pictures, but they were not needed, Amy (the assistant manager) quickly agreed to get an exterminator out to us, he came in a few days and sprayed. we noticed a few more after, but we just vaccummed them up and they have not returned.
we have seen three HUGE cockroaches in the 9 months we've been here, all in the first five months. oh my god they were so BIG. i freaked out everytime, but we haven't complained as it's the city and they probably came from outside and we have only seen three.
during the summer we noticed our air conditioning (which is fully adjustable) was not working very well. for a few days we waited to see if it was temporary but it was hot and getting hotter, we called and someone came that afternoon. they clean out our filter and everything returned to normal.
when we first moved in we kept getting late notices for our water and gas, but we got it worked out and we were never charged late fees.
recently, we forgot to turn in a money order for our rent. we were three days late when who i assume is Amy came and knocked loudly on our door (i was annoyed at the tyme, but i've read reviews that bad managment knocks softly so they can come in and check out the apartment, so i'm okay with it now) and issued us a warning, we got a bunch of charges including a ten dollar a day late charge which upped our rent from $475.00 a month to about $580.00. my b/f was angry that despite us have never being late before we still were face with so much more and being threatened with the locks being changed so soon after only three days, but i think any apartment complex can be succesful AND forgiving at the same tyme. you can't run a business by letting things slide.
there is a pool, two pools actually. i've only visited once, but i passed by all summer and it seemed to be open every day. both pools were clean and shaded.
there isn't a fitness center or playground or thing like that here. (but a Gold's Gym is nearby)
the guy across from me has women trouble all the tyme, at least two girls have banged on his door and window because of his wrong doing. it's annoying, but i've never complained as it's not too often that something like this happens.
the lady next foor i would like to hit with a big stick because she has big sounding dog or dogs that bark whenever someone knocks on any door on my floor and she also slams her door very hard... a BIG stick... but these are tenents, i'm sure i've done annoying things too.
so i can hear people walking on the stairs oustide, it's very audible but, for me, not unbearable at all. (i'm 19, still a teen, what do i care')
i can sometimes hear the person in the next apartment from my bedroom. he snores incredibley loud though, so it may not be the walls... i can hear even better in the bathroom (which is also really small and also the sink and vanity mirror are outside the bathroom.) and he sings in the shower, which is okay because he's good at it. He has a very soulful voice, actually, it's nice...i'm lucky though, it could have been a mother of four who is constantly yelling at her kids instead of a man who plays jazz and r&b softly in the mornings.
my b/f got held at knifepoint across the street from this complex, close to the pawnshop, which was scary and we did report it to the police, (he demanded money and my b/f had kicked the guy in the genitals, threw him on the ground and ran without giving him a cent... the police said next time, give him the money)
But, so far, we have never been robbed or mugged, the parking lot is well lit and i even go jogging at midnight sometimes (i have insomnia)
and as far as i know no one has ever come in our apartment without our consent, whether it's robbers or apartment personal.
most of the people that live here, from what i've seen, work in the medical center or at USAA.
i have, so far not regretted living here. i am currently looking for a two bedroom apartment so i might move if a two bedroom here is very expensive but i'd like to stay.
if you can reccomend a two bedroom apartment and are feeling generous email me at theoriginalbadceed@hotmail.com
also, i hope this helps anyone looking into these apartments and if it has i'd appreciate a response saying so. you can also email me if you have any questions about these apartments, i promise i'll be very honest and i won't lie, i just want to help.
