The management quality at the Vintage has dropped to the ground over the past 3 years. I pay almost $900 per month for a 1-bedroom apartment, and my med student friends who live at Carlyle Place, Broadstone on Medical, and other nearby apartments receive better customer service (we compare notes) and pay far less rent.

First, safety is a concern. One evening I came home to find my apartment door wide open (I know for a fact that I locked the door before leaving), so I went down to ask the security guard if he would please accompany me into my apartment to make sure that no intruder was inside. The security guard did not even walk with me into the apartment; instead, he hit on my friend and talked to her at the doorway of my apartment, while I entered my apartment alone. When I had ensured that no intruder was inside my apartment (thank goodness), the security guard really appalled me by saying, "I know where the intruder is....He's inside your head!" Then he laughed loudly. I was shocked that a security guard at my "luxury apartment" actually laughed at me, a young female living alone, for asking him to help me make sure there was no intruder inside my apartment when I found my door wide open. Instead, he was much more interested in asking out my friend on a date, who by the way, declined his invitation and later mentioned that he made her uncomfortable.

This is not the only incident that compromised safety. When I was out of town, I asked my friend to check my mail. I had previously submitted a formal letter stating my friend's name and that I authorized her to check my mail. When she came to the office (the management had never met her), she said, "May I have the mail key for apartment ___ '", at which point they gave her the key without asking for any identification. Interestingly, they gave her the key for a different apartment that was not mine. That does not make me feel comfortable that the management will give out keys (and the wrong keys) to random strangers without asking for proper identification.

Other concerns include having to submit multiple work orders for things to be repaired. Also, the apartment takes every opportunity to nickle-and-dime you. For instance, they recently started charging $1 per page for any non-local faxes. Funny that paying almost $900/month for my 1-bedroom "luxury apartment" does not allow any complimentary faxes. I have lived in apartments with that charged a far lower rent the Vintage that allow you to use their fax machine without charge just to send a couple of pages.

I hope that you take this information into consideration before deciding to rent at the Vintage. I am really surprised at how a "luxury apartment" can charge such high rent while offering such poor customer service.
