Horrible Management!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
Those of you writing positive reviews haven't lived here very long. My husband and I have lived here for over a year and yes, the first year was fantastic. They were prompt, available and helpful. Signed a second year and everything changed. Paid extra money for shipments to be delivered next day, and the staff is gone on 2 hour lunches and has no one to pick up packages -- we had to retrieve them from UPS office. Key gets stuck in door, cant close the door, cant pull out the key -- contact office and maintenance could not even be reached for over 2 hours (we were literally stuck at the door). Bathtub faucets in BOTH bathrooms failed to turn off water on TWO occassions ((hot gushing water, mind you))-- this is the THIRD time they will need to bust the tile to make repairs.. but its been 5 days since the report and STILL no maintenance. Called the office -- cant contact maintenance workers. They enter the apt without notification prior or after leaving. When asked for compensation in utilities for all these water issues -- was told I would have to talk to management -- who is conveniently always on vacation. Called headquarters in AZ, no reply, no answer. DO NOT LIVE HERE.
In Terms of Safety: stay away! Being near the medical district is not their fault, but it isn't a luxury either (tons of sirens and cars). My husband and I refuse to leave our apt after 8pm and at night several people park in the streetways with loud music, screaming at eachother in fights, using poor language, or screaming on cell phones and threatening eachother's lives.
Parking is ridiculously close together and if anyone ever parks in your spot, and you politely notify the office -- they just tell you to wait and if they do it again, notify the office. Completely negates the point of having reserved parking.
Neighbors are very nice and very private, so we must have been lucky to get a good building. However, this has nothing to do with the management.
When coming up for our second lease, which was up February 1 2006, they contacted us November 27 2005 and said in a note "You have til the following day: ((written in)) November 29th to tell us if you're going to sign another year or not. If you dont notify us you will be penalized with an additional 50$ fee on your month's rent for the length of your stay. What the heck'' We immediately ran down to the office and questioned 30 day policy.. this is 60 days and there is no way we'll have an answer in just 2 days. They politely pretended it was an accident and said to ignore it. 1 week later, we received the same notice but this time saying December 7th, notify us by December 9th. Caught up in family deaths and the holidays, we gave in and decided we didn't have the energy to fight them or look for another place at the moment --- it was OUR BIGGEST MISTAKE!! Everyday I look for another apartment/home.
