Not the greatest place on earth, possibly the worst.

I held a lease with West Pond Apartments from August 2008 to March 2009.

My lease ended early when I left for a deployment to Iraq in late March.

I would like to say I got out of it easily without any unecessary fees, but instead I was charged for various items.

One being stains on the carpet that were reported to management after my first day in the apartment.

The complex also added a last month utility bill that should have been covered by a $50 check I left with management before my departure.

The $50 check was cashed and appeared on my banking statment but my father, who was handling all my finances while I was away, had already payed the complex for what they asked for.

Upon moving into West Pond I noticed quite a few problems.

The first being the stains on the carpet.

And then slowly following I discovered a flea infestation.

My apartment was on the first floor and I assume the previous tenant had pets.

After speaking with management about the issue, it took nearly a week and a half to get an exterminator into my apartment.

I stayed at a friends place during this period, after which, the problem was still not resolved.

I ended up purchasing flea bombs to take care of the issue myself.

After this instance I spoke to management about the recent events.

They promised me they would send a crew in to redo the steam cleaning of the apartment.

This never came.

I also requested a receipt of the carpet replacement to verify the date met Texas standards.

I was told they could not come up with the proper documentation.

A few weeks later, I began to hear loud pounding noises coming from the tenants above me.

Friends of mine would comment that it sounded like they were repeatedly picking up and dropping bowling balls.

This was also coupled with a very loud sound system that soaked easily through the apartments poorly insulated floors/walls.

On many nights I would be kept up by loud screaming coming from the same apartment.

I could actually make out entire conversations while I was laying in my bed.

I spoke with the apartment complex on over 20 different occasions.

I was told there was nothing they could do because of the timeline of their lease.

This issue remained constant until my departure from San Antonio.

Although a gated complex, 1 to 2 of the entry gates are often left open due to a malfunction on the system in place.

Do not be suprised to see this problem left unfixed for weeks at a time.

In late March, approximately 1 week before I left for Iraq, my car was broken into while parked on the complex.

The windows were shattered and multiple items were missing from inside the vehicle.

There have also been memos from management addressing recent gunshot activity on the complex during my time there.

I would recommend against moving into this apartment.

Though I will say this...

it is livable, just not preferable.

But that being said, most of your apartments in this area will be within the same category.

If you are looking for a very affordable place and the items above don't bother you, go for it.

But if they do, try Northern San Antonio.
