I would compare these postings to a tabloid. Only a shread of truth surrounded by gossip.
I was a former leasing agent, apartment locator, and previous renter at Bishop's Square during College.
I am familiar with every apartment complex in San Marcos from locating. Most of the people on this with reviews have no idea would a bad apartment complex is like. I chose Bishop's Square for a reason it's a great floorplan, knowledgeable staff, and they go above and beyond to accomodate the residents. Is there problems yes! Does EVERY SINGLE COMPLEX have problems' YES! Do they try to fix them' YES!
For most of you, this is your first rental experience. Let me enlighten you.
An apartment is different from mommy and daddy's brick/stone house. They are not made like a house. Some of you would consider them made "cheaply". Yes, they are made cheaper than a home. If you don't like it, buy a home. Call me, I'm a REALTOR.
From time to time, things will break. Call the maintenance man and he will come fix it. Don't wait until Friday at 5PM and then complain that it didn't get done. He doesn't work 24/7.
When you move in to a complex you sign a legal, binding, contract that was made by attorneys. Do not try to find an out, you won't, so get over it. Do not blame the complex on your lack of intelligence for not realizing you were signing a legal, binding, contract.
Be nice to the leasing staff they are college students just like you just following orders from the higher ups. It is not their fault that your shower leaks, your car gets towed, or you fail a final. Don't take it out on them. Have you ever heard that you can get more from sugar than spice' Think about it.
More importantly when a problem arises just take a breathe! Your in college! Enjoy the 4,5,or 10 years you are in and don't worry about everything so much. Because after you graduate you will be wishing to still be partying in San Marcos!
Best of luck!

The author does not specifically state what's good or bad about this community. The inference here is that you have to deal with bad quality, bad service and bad behavior from staff because "that's the way it is in the real world." Cheaply made apartments result in higher electric and water bills which can offset a "good deal." And yes, it is their fault if your shower leaks (who's paying for water?) or your car gets towed (who has to deal with no transportation?) because ultimately they are the management team that could have used a proactive approach to problem solving rather than a reactive one. Failing to live up to stated policies such as noise disturbances at inappropriate hours and having maintenance respond within a reasonable time, should be followed. When a problem occurs, report and document who and when you talked to community staff and the problem reported. This way you have a record of recurring problems. Be nice but firm about what action you require from the staff. If "sugar" doesn't work, then go to the next level of management with your DOCUMENTED complaints (see how that works?) until you get your problem resolved. Second, talk to other tenants and see if they have the same problems with staff. Groups are less likely to encounter retaliation than single complaints. And, yes, enjoy the college years. |
