I am a disabled person with a medically necessary animal. My doctor informed me that a dog was a necessary step in my treatment and when I informed him that I couldn't afford a pet deposit He assured me that with his documentation my pet deposit was required to be waived. After living at two other complexes with a dog, his legal advice was right. Never were there any problems with my dog or any finacial obligations because of the medical necessity. At Clarewood I was forced to get rid of my dog after a lengthy battle with the manager and the corprate office. They argue that their policy says they can charge a deposit to the disabled as long as they charge everyone else a pet deposit as well. I still know this not to be the law in Texas, however since I can't afford the pet deposit I certainly cannot afford an attorney. So now my medical progress has been suspended and stunted. I have a lease for another 11 months. Its miserable and depressing to live with these people who are heartless and discriminating. I would advise anyone, especially the elderly or otherwise disabled to avoid Clarewood at all cost. Speaking of cost it is a large apartment, however it is an older community with a small property. I look out my window at a parking lot and a fence. My last apartment in town was the same price, brand new, utities included, and an expansive property that was secluded and beautiful green and lush. The only reason I moved out of there was a need for my boyfriend to have access to I-35 to go to work. I hate it here.
