There's Better and There's Worse

Like the previous reviewer, I was stuck on-campus for the Spring because they didn't want to let me completely go--I was actually told by the director that she had a "financial obligation to the university to keep me on campus" despite the fact that I was only getting about 3 hours of sleep a night in the dorm since everyone on my floor partied. My on-campus boss noticed I'd become especially jumpy throughout the semester as well, but still, no. The director had wanted to place me in Bobcat, which countless classmates had told me would be even worse, so I spoke with Gabby who helped me get placed into Comanche Hill instead. In other words, I came into CH with pretty low expectations of another sleepless semester.
In that regard, I must say that noise-wise, it's not too bad. I tend to be a light sleeper in regards to non-ambient noises, and I was able to get a full-night's sleep. Of course, I was on the third floor of the building closest to Campus Colony, and it could just be that the people in this building were quiet to begin with. It is a bit too easy to hear people walking by outside, but that's not too big of a deal. It's better than listening to drunk students yelling "Hey, I'm drunk guys!" at 2am, or potheads pulling fire alarms at 4:20am.
I never had trouble getting a parking spot. In fact, I ended up with the same spot almost every time. The only deal is that I have an Oldsmobile, and the upper lot is pretty rough on cars that sit low to the ground. And the hill can be a bit rough to car doors since you have to really hold onto it to keep it from swinging open violently. I've seen a few cars get towed from Campus Colony's parking lot, but since none of my friends have cars, that wasn't a problem for me. And after 5pm [maybe it's 7pm'], they can park on the street.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I liked the carpet since it was soft and squishy for my feet'
One thing that did tick me off was that my apartment was not cleaned AT ALL before I moved in. The bedroom was not vacuumed, and the bathroom had caulk, matted hair, clots of paint, and all manner of other things just lying around. The kitchen had not been cleaned either, as was obvious from the stove, dishwasher, and refridgerator [more hair and clumps of food]. As someone else said, there also tends to be hair painted into the walls. So I'm assuming they shouldn't take anything out of my security deposit for cleaning since they didn't do anything in the first place, and this apartment will obviously be in a cleaner condition when I leave than it was when I moved in.
The office staff is very nice, but there seems to be some miscommunication from time to time. For example, I went to the office to put in a maintenace request because the handle on my toilet had snapped inside. Well, later in the day the maintenance guy, who was VERY nice by the way, comes with a plunger because the office staff told him that my toilet was clogged. I think he found it funny that I was shocked that most students apparently don't know how to unclog a toilet. He didn't have the tools to fix it with him right then, so I told him there wasn't a big rush, as I could just pull on the little stick to flush it, which I was keeping clear of the water by barely resting it in the pipe. However, when I came back from my evening class that same afternoon, there was a note that the toilet had been fixed, and that he would come back to look at the dishwasher for my roomate.
Now, I'm not sure what happened with the dishwasher, but shortly after someone [no idea which staff member] cleaned it for my roommate [there was moldy stuff in it], it kinda flooded all over the kitchen floor. I was away at class when this happened, so my roommate got to have the fun job of cleaning it up.
Bugwise, well...Aside from the ants in the bathtub, which I didn't really bother to report since they're literally all over campus [dorms, classrooms, bathrooms, etc], and they were sticking to the safety of the fixture area, the only bugs we've seen were two dead roaches in the kitchen after the pest control came by.
I read that someone had trouble setting up their internet. I don't know what that's all about. I have a ridiculously cheap router that I received as a gift at my high school's graduation party, and I had it up and running with a password and everything within twenty minutes of it making it here in the mail from my house. And I didn't even have the installation disc! On occasion, I've noticed it going a little buggy, but I think that has more to do with the cheap receiver I use with my desktop than anything else.
All-in-all, this is a very nice place to live for a student, especially when compared to some of the apartments we lived in when I was a child in the Dallas area.
