NOT your new home if safety and sleep matter to you...

I moved out recently after a year here. Here are the pros and cons as I see them:
Pros:
Management/maintenance/cleaning staff generally pretty nice people
Unique property, and some of the units have interesting floorplans
Within walking distance to Texas State, grocery store, and the town square
Rent includes all bills
Cons:
Noise - you just can't get away from it here; you'll have the answering service and SMPD on speed-dial.
Security - almost every "secured" hallway door is broken, and has been for several months. No security guard, they REALLY need one.
Cleanliness - hall carpets are filthy, walls have holes punched in them, dirty windows in the exercise room, occasional pet excrement in the halls too.
Construction - this place was very obviously slapped together by the lowest bidder. Spend one night here and you'll understand.
Fire Alarms - happen here more than anywhere I've ever lived (at 3 AM, no less)
Overall, I think the well-meaning management/maintenance/cleaning staff is just overwhelmed by the drunken "inmates" who want to destroy everything here. A real, on-duty security guard working every night would have made a big difference; for some reason, the property owners just don't want to pay for one. I think it's just a matter of time until something really bad happens here... too bad, 'cause the place really has some potential.
