Rude accountants, uncaring corporate, and greedy management

This complex does not care about their residents - former and current. When you vacate they put unfair charges on your account. They send you a bill with some ridiculous amount, and claim to send a "revised bill" once a new resident moves in.
You don't hear from them until 3 months later, when they claim you are a delinquent and demand you pay up immediately. When you call up to clarify, the accountant is rude. You request to see why these charges accrued and the accountant says "those are your charges". If you request a meeting with the manager to clarify they refuse the appointment. You leave messages for the manager and the accountant calls you back, says you "cannot talk to the manager". The sales agents are polite, but they are not the ones doing accounting.
The complex keeps sending you bills even after you have paid them off. Emails and letters to the manager and corporate office go unanswered. For a publicly traded company this attitude is appalling. As you are waiting for their reply to your letter seeking explanation, they refer you to a collection agency. The collection agency guy threatens to ruin your credit for no fault of your own. The overall experience is such a nightmare that you feel exhausted.
Their corporate website says they care about customers. There is HIGH manager turnout - each manager is there only for about 6 months. I guess they simply don't care because they are not here very long anyway. You expect better after years of living there, that they will treat you right. But to them you are just nameless and faceless and they are ruthless. The whole experience leaves you with a very bitter taste in your mouth.
The complex is also degraded since 2000. In the Fall, the parking lots have swirling leaves which aren't cleared. The leaves soak up the rains, and there is this slippery mush.
Insulation is poor. For a 2 bedroom apt, heating and cooling bills touch $200 a month, with low-to-moderate usage.
If people are renting, it is because of the location and schools.
Avoid this place - if you made the mistake of renting, be VERY meticulous when you leave. Get EVERYTHING they promise in writing. Do not leave until you have them make a final walkthrough, give you a bill then and there. Clarify everything, and before you leave, get in WRITING that all bills are paid and nothing is outstanding.
A friend of mine was charged with full carpet replacement after only a year of renting. They left the place clean. The management claimed there were pet stains when they pulled up the carpet - my friend has no pet, so why would there be pet stains' They claimed that they have photos of the carpet. Why would they pull up the carpet unless they were going to replace it anyway'

Actually this community had the same community manager from October 2004 to July 2008. The current manager worked at the property previously as the Assistant Manager and returned in July 2007. Unfortunately it is not possible to please everyone all the time though I genuinely believe that the staff strives to do so.
