Originally built as "Casa de Oro," they were once government subsidized, and the age and tenants have definitely taken their toll on the structure and integrity of most of the buildings. My elderly grandmother recalls when they were built, and that's not usually a good thing. Very little to no insulation in the walls, hope you aren't shy about what goes on in your home, because anyone walking by or living close can hear you. In the back, lots of rude people, so don't expect to make any lasting neighborly friendships. Basically, the positives are cheaper rent (although there was a $40 rent increase a few months ago for "renovations" which included removing rail road ties as retaining walls and replacing them with concrete) and the other positive is free extended cable (although there has been talk of them losing that amenity before). Haven't seen much else by way of renovations, and there is a serious pest problem that just won't go away, no matter how often you clean. Don't purchase drinks from machines, they are usually hot or broken and will steal your money. Take your laundry some place else, as both laundry facilities are in desperate need of repair. Telephones are usually broken, so better have your own. Maintenance is polite, discreet, and friendly. Management leaves a bit to be desired. Generally, other than domestic problems, haven't seen much need for security. People do let their children run around unsupervised a lot during day to dusk, so expect lots of day time noise and drive slow in the parking lot. Parking is a problem most of the time, and people have a nasty habit of parking in fire zones, making it dangerous and difficult to pass. I have to park a ways from my apartment 40 % of the time. This place needs a major appliance and fixture and carpet overhaul and update. A little crown molding and subdued tones and clean updated fixtures and table tops would make this place a heck of a lot better! I may not have much to say about GhettoBrook, but at least they aren't the worst in town. Sad to say.
