University Pines is a great place for freshman and sophomore, not as great for older students. It provides a great transition from living at home to being on your own but the majority of the students living there are freshman.
It is more expensive than normal but I guess that is how all student housing is. Of course it costs more to live on campus--they have their own police force, RA's, social programs, etc. Plus it's individual lease liability which means you won't get stuck paying your roommates half if they flake on you. That alone is worth a little more in rent a month. The Ra's are pretty good. Some of them are better than others but they all seem to do their job pretty well. The programs are also a plus, I have won so many things in them plus they always have free food. Other good things are the security and the close proximity to school.

That said there are a few things that are not so great (which I guess you find anywhere). The parking is pretty bad at night but that's because everybody has visitors and doesn't make them park where they should. If they did it would then the parking would be 100 times better. Renting the furniture sucks. The furniture is not worth $300 even once much less every year. I know most students don't have their own furniture yet but for $300 you could get a decent start on it!!! I think the worst thing about the complex is a certain police officer. He goes looking for people to arrest and I think harasses them. It is on school property and you are not supposed drink but should the cops practically knock on every door looking for alcohol-No!!! They should only go after those making noise, having loud parties, or doing something stupid (like hanging out on their balcony with a visible beer). Most college students drink and those that do it responsibly (ie, in your apt not planning to drive and being quiet) should not be punished. However the police presence does make me feel safer than I would otherwise, I don't worry about my safety like I would somewhere else.
So overall, I suggest these apartments for you younger students who can appreciate the transition elememt and the indv. leases.
