Here's the deal...

There are a few good things:
Free food on occasion. Yes, it's great to have some free food given to us by the office staff, etc. Also, it's nice living close to campus, which in convenient except how Emerald Ridge is also across the street and is way more affordable. It's also nice to have all college-age people around - you can meet new people that way.
Bad things: Insanely expensive. The fact that most student housing is expensive is NOT a reason to charge high prices. The model apartment and the actual apartment one receives are two completely different things, and in my opinion that's not right. For how much we paid for the furniture, it isn't right to have completely worn couches that have probably never been cleaned (and God knows whats happened on them). I just didn't appreciate finding a huge hair clog in my drain and hair everywhere - if someone had just swept that wouldn't have happened. They need to just tell people what they will be getting..but if they did that I don't think anyone would live here.
Also, there are only 2 maintance men for almost 400 people. No wonder work orders take forever!
The police seem nice, but I just don't like being treated like I'm always doing something wrong by being stared down when I have never been anything but a law-abiding citizen. There is a "everyone is a suspect" mentality, which I don't agree with. I don't think there should be rampant drug use going on, but the means to catching these people hasn't been ethical. There have been reports filed with the Smith County sheriff's department complaining.
The office staff seemed unfriendly if they didn't like you for some reason, which is completely unprofessional. The RAs are usually too young to handle the responsibility. I'm mature enough to handle my problems - I don't want people trying to talk to me about them without me asking them. I really would have liked to be left alone and treated fairly.
Overall, I met some cool people whom I still talk to and I enjoyed that, but I also met people I would never want to see again. That's life. But I wouldn't live there again. It isn't a great experience as a first move out..you can get a better experience living in another apartment complex near the school.
