Just Like Life - It has the good and the bad

Positives:
* Grass -- there is actually room for dogs to run and it is well kept
* Jory and Ira who work the gate -if you have a bad day, talk to them - they'll make you smile.
* Small maintenance work - efficient and professional
* Neighbors - Some areas are party areas - others are quiet -- If you want sleep - ask managment about which buildings are better.
* Pool, hot tub, clubhouse -- great place for friends to hang out (if only some immature people would take into consideration when disposing of trash at the pool)
* The clubhouse has a library - good place to study with nearby distractions (pool table and large screen tv) when you want them.
* Unique floor plans -- I love that I have a separate dining room.
Negatives
* Rent is high for the condition of the actual apartment.
*Apartment condition
- cracks at the baseboards near door - I can see day light through the crack below my front door, tile is cheap (don't drop anything on it or have a dish washer that leaks - which my apartment occassionaly does)
- cheap carpet -- if you live there more than a year - it looks worn out (even if you are clean)
- bathtub -- apparently if you clean your tub each week - it will actually make it look worse b/c the painted coating will chip and leave rusted or grey spots.
-- cabinets - old and cheaply put together
* Management - I have not problems with them, in fact, they have responded well to any complaint made and have never lost any check.
* Major maintenace work -- How's this response to a complaint that your bathroom has flooded twice during rainstorms - "Well, there's not much we can do, but if the tile starts to mildew or peel up in the bathroom, let us know and we'll replace it." == how's that for fixing a problem
* gated complex - sounds great, at least that is until your clicker breaks off your key ring b/c it is a hunk of junk and there is noone at the gate during the day - good luck getting in -- It can really just grate on you when you are sitting at the gate thinking about the rent you pay to live in this SAFE complex BUT you can't get in. A new clicker will cost you 50 dollars (that's all fine and dandy for rich kids who have mommy and daddy to fork over the money - but if you live on student loans - you'll be with me sitting at the gate.
* What I have been told: Good Luck getting deposits back (so don't be fooled by the statement that you will get 1/2 of the 300 dollar pet deposit back)
* Personal Negatives (law student) The trolley doesn't run until 7:40 -- and does not run by the law school - so it is utterly USELESS to you.
* Bushes can make some areas not so safe at night when they haven't been trimmed -- but all it takes is a simple comment to management and it was taken care of - the next day the groundskeepers trimmed the bushes. (Now that's is an example of attentive managment)
* Walls are thin - you will know too much about your neighbors music tastes and their personal life.
* If someone slams a door above you, it will shake the whole building.
* The parties thrown by management are good - unless you live in a building close to it and are trying to study
* Laundry - in the two years I have lived there: I have had a load of clothes (all my jeans) stolen, a laundry basket and detergent taken (but they did leave me the dirty pants that time) and countless quarters for machines that randomly quit working.
Overall Opinion: For a college town apartment - its good. Management is pleasant as long as you are pleasant to them and pay rent on time. Jory and Ira are wonderful. Rent could be cheaper for the condition - the claim for the high rent is the "improvements" -- which there have been (new tv, tv in weight room, new weights, treadmill, radio in laundry.) The amenities are great -- I just wish the condition of the builidngs matched (at least sand and repaint the stairs). I realize that the buildings are old and used to be government housing but they aren't anymore and the rent surely shows. I do love the new treadmill - it is computerized and can play CD's and plan a trainging program for you.
'
My referral: It's good for college students and despite my complaints, I have overall been pleased with the complex and recommend it to people. -- Take the good with the bad -your never gonna find something perfect.

thanks for giving a good overall review. most of the ones i've read seem to be one liners from management and some very disgruntled tenants
