Not worth the money you pay...
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/20/2008
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
These apartments really weren't worth what we paid for them. I shared a 2-story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath with 2 other girls, and generally speaking, it really wasn't that great.
Pros:
- Pool and hot tub access were great
- Close to campus (it's a block away from Baylor, just a 3-minute walk; this is basically what you pay so much money for)
- Free cable/internet
- Washer/dryer in unit
- Only utility you have to pay for is electric
Cons:
- When we arrived to move in, it was incredibly dirty.
- Appliances broke often and weren't fixed terribly promptly.
- Rooms were pretty tiny... Mine wasn't the most spacious but it was better than my roommates' rooms, which were only slightly larger than a walk-in closet, it seemed.
- Difficult to find parking at times
- In the summer, the air conditioning system worked terribly and the heat was often unbearable. The only supply of air conditioning I had in my room was two tiny vents on the floor, located in tiny corners of the room.
- Management was often short with me, rude, and not very helpful.
And one horror story that I experienced:
I was the first roommate to move in to our apartment at the Centre. Our original apartment was a one-story, 2 bedroom, 2 bath on the bottom floor. After I moved in all of my furniture, I walked into my roommate's bedroom to look around, and found TONS of black mold all along the ceiling, door frame, and tile of the bathroom. It was absolutely disgusting. Obviously, the management hadn't checked this out before we were to move in. It barely looked like they'd cleaned. There were dead bugs everywhere, the carpet was dirty, and the mold in the bathroom (which one of my roommates is highly allergic to) was just inexcusable. Luckily, my mother (who is much more confrontational than I) was there to bring us some justice, and we were moved to another apartment. (They hired movers, free for us, to move all of my furniture to the new apartment, and rightfully so.) After we moved, someone else moved into that apartment, and I actually got to know him really well. When I told him our horror story, he said that he'd had no idea that this had happened in his apartment.
Bottom line:
You can definitely find somewhere a lot better for your money.
