We have lived in an upstairs three bedroom apt for the past two years. This past summer, our electricity bill averaged $550/month and it was still 90 degrees in my apartment. The only place that the AC/heat comes out is in the master bedroom. An outside company that specializes in A/C service and repair came out to look at our system and said that the whole unit was only fit for a one bedroom in a downstairs apartment. I told the office this and they said that they were not going to do anything about it. The insulation is very poor. For example, you can see daylight and feel air come in from the front door, breezes blow into the apartment from the windows, and my master window is so badly done that it sounds like my window is open when there is outside noise.
The square footage is a joke. The 3bd apt sq footage is around 1180, but almost half of it is in one big open area in the front of the apt. The master bedroom is about average. But, the other two rooms are just big enough for one child forget it if you have more than one child staying in one room.
Maintenance, as a whole, is a disaster. There is one good maintenance man that is prompt and actually knows how to fix things. The other ones know very little English, don t show up, make promises they don t keep, and only half way fix things. The ceiling fan fell (under its own power) in my daughters room one night and it took 6 months of hounding the office to get maintenance to come fix it and put in a new one. The entire two years that we have lived here, we have complained about the refrigerator door not closing properly and they have yet to correctly fix that problem.
Now, the good things After complaining about my very old dishwasher for several months, they came out and gave me a brand new one. When we complained about noisy downstairs neighbor, then on site police officer actually came out to correct the situation. The parking is adequate. The schools are excellent. It is located next door to the Intermediate School. The pool is clean. The grounds are kept neat. And, until our downstairs neighbors moved in, everything was very quiet.

I am currently living at Heritage Square Apts, and I have been here for about 14 months. This summer I will renew our lease again. I have to say, that this review is obviously legit and I feel sorry for the resident but I cannot say that I have had the same experience at Heritage Square. The insulation "issue" is a huge problem but I found an easy fix. I fixed it myself by putting in weather stripping on all my doors and windows (that alone dropped my power bill by about $30 a month). With that said, the AC/cooling is still a problem but I think management is looking into upgrading the current units. I may be wrong on that. Maintenance has treated me well though. They are always prompt, courteous and thorough--in my experience at least. For what you pay for, you get a lot here. $550 in power bill is outrageous though and I can see why you moved out. In the summer, we spend about $185 for our 2 bedroom, upstairs apartment (with windows facing both east and west). Obviously they needed to replace your AC. |
