My apartment had a strange smell from the time I moved in that progressively got worse. I later found out it was mold. I began feeling ill from this and it without a doubt had an effect on my grades. The manager of the property would have "Bubba" the maintenance guy come check for mold. Of course he did not see anything and another guy settled on the idea that it was because of an old paint smell exhibiting from the closet. His cure for the problem- a few sprays of odo-ban! I repeatedly told them that mold cannot always be seen with the naked eye and that the sheetrock needed to be replaced.
Fast forward to spring break... 4am: a tsunami of water begins leaking from my ceiling in my bathroom. I called their "emergency help line" with no results. I stayed up until 8AM waiting for them to open all while trying to save my valuables. i finally get some girl on the phone that says she will call maintenance immediately. They finally show up around 11. Takes them another 2hrs to go get some part, I'm guessing a pipe, I don't know since they were being ultra-secretive about it. So they take care of that and im stuck with a gigantic hole in my ceiling.
This intensified the mold in my apartment x1000. Long story short - after a feud of their managers hanging up on me and some of the rudest behavior I've ever witnessed from a business establishment, I ended up having to stay in a hotel for a couple weeks and canceling my spring-break plans.
They refused to let me out of my lease despite the walls in my closet turning black from all the mold. We spoke to one of their representatives in Dallas and alerted them of our pending lawsuit and they finally let us out of the lease. But they refused to compensate any hotel bills, or high-electricity usage from their machines to clean and dry my apartment.
Before I left, other people in my complex complained of their walls being wet and strange smells coming from their air conditioning. They were also remodeling the outside of the apartments at the time with some of the cheapest, ugliest Hardy siding you can buy.
It should be noted that someone also tried to break-in to my apartment one night around 3AM in November 2008. They tried to kick my door in but I was able to keep it from opening.
I also spoke to another resident who was suing the property because maintenance had stolen property from his apartment.
Overall, living here has been one of the worst experiences of my life. It really is worth paying the extra $100 somewhere else to not have to deal with a business as unprofessional as Rivercrap.

In response to your review of our property, I am extremely sorry for all of your problems regarding your apartment while you lived here. But I would like to point out that while you lived here, you never called in most workorders, another family member did. Therefore it is extremely difficult for maintenance or the office staff to take care of any issues in your apartment if we are not aware of them. The first time that we spoke to your family member (that did not live in your apartment) and we sent a maintenance technician over to your apartment immediately. Maintenance was partially through with your sheetrock repair, but when they returned to complete the repair you had a note on your door asking us to "come back later". That would be the reason that your sheetrock repair was not completed within a 24 hour period, not because of our maintenance staff. This was not the only time that you left us a note asking us to return later. That would be the only reason that your work orders may not have been completed in the time frame that you would have liked. I believe that we were very understanding, helpful, and fair when it came to your particular situation.
Sincerely,
RiverCrest Management
