A Better Review

To be fair, I am an employee of Village Oaks Apartments. I stumbled on this site and felt it would be ok if I left my opinions. We have had more than 1200 students live at Village Oaks since 2002, so I suppose 6 bad reviews in that time is not too bad.
First, I'm going to clear up some inaccuracies from the earlier reviews. The resident that was mentioned that smoked in the non-smoking apartment was repeatedly repremanded by the management of the apartment complex for smoking, and then eventually moved. While he was later implicated in the murder of a TSTC student, the victim WAS NOT his roommate. This murder happened in College Station, not at TSTC.
Second, I live at Village Oaks Apartments along with the 900 other residents that stay at the complex. This is a student housing facility and it is run as such. Each unit is relativly small, and roommates are assigned, just like any other student housing facility on any other college campus. The students are paying to stay within walking distance of their classes. The nice thing is: Most colleges in our area charge $29 per square foot per semester (4 months), but Village Oaks Apartments only charges $11 per square foot. A good deal for the amount of space each student is getting.
Maintenance is suppose to be done withing 48 hours of the maintenance request. If it is not done within that time, the students may come to the office and talk to any of the 5 available on-site managers. We also have up to 10 Resident Assistants that stay out on the property talking to residents. Students may put in maintenance requests with them, or they may let the RA know that there is a maintenance request that has taken longer than 48 hours.
As for the complaints about money. The amounts the earlier review complained about are correct. The manners in which they were charged, and why they were charged are incorrect. Just like any other apartment complex, we have the residents inspect their apartments before they move in. We inspect the apartment after they move out. We do charge to repair damages that are beyond normal ware and tear to the apartment if it is not written down on the inpection form before they move in. Of course, if you break your lease without following the cancelation clause, you are going to be charged the remainder of the lease (for one resident, this came to roughly $1700). This is uncommon. The majority of the people get the majority of their security deposit back.
The female reviewers from above are correct that the male:female population is 9:1. This is a student housing facility on a technical college. Unfortunately, the women are right that there are cat calls and some rude men. The women are not left alone, however, as they are usually (unless they request otherwise) housed with 3 other females, and are never housed with males. Any offensive or inappropriate behavior that is brought to the attention of an RA or of the managment of the complex is dealt with quickly.
Village Oak has a 24-hour on-call staff, so the students can get ahold of an RA (or even a Manager or Maintenance) at any time of the day or night (even 4am). 3 Managers, 3 Maintenance men, and 2 police officers live on the property.
While drugs are a factor on the property (as they are everywhere), the police take every bit of information seriously. They deal with it to the extent that the law and TSTC Residential Life policy allow. Any time Village Oaks gets any information about drugs (even the slightest suspicion), we turn it over to the police. We have 15 police officers (includeing 2 investigators) for our small campus.
These reviews are the first I have heard about a problem with the power. I will notify our maintenance supervisor. Two years ago, we did have some serious problems with our water system, but those problem were corrected within a month.
Parking is an issue. During the Fall and Spring Semesters, we have 900 students living in the complex. Just like any apartment complex, you cannot expect to be able to park directly in front of your apartment every time you park. We are also surrounded by 4 other TSTC parking lots. Students may park there and they are within a resonable distance to their apartment. I have lived here for 5 years, and I have never had to do that.
They are right that the parking lot gates do not work. they were deactivated over a year ago at the request of several student Focus Groups and the Tenant Council (a group of students that help govern Village Oaks). The problem was that the students felt it was a hassle to russle around for their gate activation card, and then 6 cars would follow through the gates after they were opened. We deactivated the gates and watched to see if there would be any changes in crime, and there were not. The exit gates still operate to keep the flow of traffic going the correct direction.
If you have any questions about the apartments, please call us at (254) 799-5885. You can also come get a tour of the complex (both inside and out). Our large on-site office staff will gladly give you any information you want or need. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ

Seems like the only person who likes living at Village Jokes is the one that doesn't have to pay rent. The fact that you disclosed a murder suspect/convict is highly unprofessional. You are severely dillusional. I hope that future students don't read this as an official testimonial because every single student that I know or have known has hated every minute living at VOA. Must be nice living at an apartment complex that basically rips poor college students off to make a buck.

Where you paid to write this review? The place is a highly over-priced roach invested hell hole. Rather like an extortion camp where late fees and additional electric changes are a regular occurence. Forget getting your deposit back that will never happen. DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS SORT OF HELL FOR A YEAR! REMEMBER YOU ARE ONLY SEEING THE NICEST APARTMENTS ON YOUR PRE-LEASE VISIT!
