DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT MOVING TO BRIGHTON PLACE!

We lived at Brighton Place for about 1.5 years, and we had a really awful time there. The maintenance was fantastic the day we moved in, but after that it usually took several complaints before they would even send someone over to look at something. We had roaches crawling up the pipes from downstairs, and they never did anything about them--we sprayed ourselves and it helped, but others said management refused to help them with this same problem too.

There is never enough parking close to the building because people have all their friends over, especially on weekends. Sometimes people leave their business vehicles and huge trailers in the lot for months and never move them (yeah, this is supposed to be against the rules, but nobody does anything). People are always parking in the red zone for hours, which blocks the apartment entrance. People stop their cars in the middle of the road to chat with their buddies and won't move out of the way even if you honk at them.

The grounds are full of trash all the time and were awful in the winter. The ice was never cleaned up, so people are always slipping on the sidewalks just trying to get to their cars. There is dog poop everywhere. They say they will fine people for not picking it up, but nothing is ever done about it. There are rarely poop bags in their dispensers, and there are not enough of these dispensers around the grounds. We used to have to bring our own bags with us on walks because we couldn't rely on them supplying these (though this is also in their agreement).

All of the office employees talk down to you like you're a little kid and are really passive-agressive and syrupy sounding on the phone. They are very disorganized and kept losing our paperwork. After we put in our notice to leave, they said we had never done this and made us do it again. They acted like the mixup was all our fault and they were bending over backwards to let us out of our lease agreement. They were very rude about this but kept using those syrupy sweet voices when dealing with us.

They didn't explain to us on move-in that we were supposed to make a note of anything that wasn't cleaned to our liking. We ended up cleaning a lot of stuff on check in just so we didn't feel disgusted living there. When we went to move out, we got charged for cleaning, even though it was cleaner than the day we had moved in. They will nickel and dime you to death for every little thing here.

Our neighbors (several sets) were mostly pretty bad and we had to call in the cops on several occasions while we lived there for loud parties and fighting. There are many illegal immigrants hanging out all the time, and they just sit outside staring you down as you drive by. I saw some cars that were vandalized in the parking lot a few times, and people tried to break into our apartment at least once that we know of. We were on the third floor, so this isn't as easy as the lower floors.

There was never enough lighting around the grounds at night, and I felt totally unsafe if I had to come home late from work.

If you are thinking of moving to Brighton Place, do yourself a favor and don't! During the week we finally moved out, there were 3 or 4 others moving out of the apartments in our building alone. There is a reason everybody is moving out.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the fact that we found kids (always kids of immigrants) playing in the garbage dumpsters all the time--seriously, like every other day. It was disgusting, they would play with broken glass bottles and pieces of siding--just whatever they could find. It was a complete safety issue, and nobody did anything about it. If I said something to any of the kids, they tended to yell and sometimes throw stuff. That's how lovely this hell-hole can be.
