In my opinion this apartment community is not a wise choice. The first month I moved in there was a shooting. There is graffiti and crime is high in this community. They charge for property tax on the apartments in lieu of your rent and the water and sewer and trash on a 1 bdrm is a whopping $30.00 and parking is an extra $25.00 dollars and cable $30.00 and if you have a pet that is $25.00 Taxes are $10.00 depending on the apartment. I wasn't told about most of these fees until I got ready to sign the lease, after I had paid the fees for a alleged credit background report I was pretty much committed. Rents on Identical apartments vary in prices as they see fit. So what one person is paying for the exact same apartment could be a lot less then what they got you for... This place is not a good choice in my opinion. Do yourself a favor keep looking, I can't wait to leave. The Manager is a self made lawyer who is arrogant and tries to intimidate the residents, in my opinion. The Maintenance guys are suburb and the President of the management company is a heck of a nice guy, who probably doesn't know what is going on. I surmise the manager here is just concerned with filling the apartments up to meet her quota to look good on the books and could care less about the integrity and future of the community, in my opinion. I believe this community has potential under the right management. Take care of your residents and treat everyone with equality and fairness. That is how you retain occupancy.

They specifically charge property tax on each apt? Thats the lowest alltime, scumbag thing i ever heard. Its bad enough that most of these apt communities charge seperate water,sewer,garbage and parking. I hope the owners of SOCW burns in hell.

I can tell you how to try to get out of your lease.It would require some of your time. You have the right under the first amendment, The right to assemble and the right to freedom of speech. Start picking in the front entrance and back entrance of the apartments with signs in protest. They probally would pay you to move. Heck I know six people here who would join you including myself. If you decide to do this make extra signs your going to need them. Good Luck ..... Make sure you do this on public property, such as the sidewalks in front of the street. then notify the media your doing this and why...They will be all over it.
