Update for 2009
From: KoreqDate posted: 6/27/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
TLDR summary: Very nice apartments, getting too pricey.
I've lived here for a year now and I really like these apartments.
Pros:
Very large rooms for student housing.
High ceilings.
Comes with a washer/dryer in each unit.
Large windows(it's nice to have sunlight).
Great parking including very spacious underground parking(it'll almost fill up during the winter late at night, but not entirely).
Nice kitchen with granite countertops, tile floors fridge, microwave, dishwasher and oven.
Nice bathrooms. 2 sinks per bathroom.
Lots of space.
Very active maintenance(I think they even take flyers off your cars early in the morning).
Management is nice and, believe it or not, not flakey.
HD channels are a nice perk, if you don't watch all of your TV online.
10mb/s internet.
Large closets.
Only private rooms, which comes to 4 people per unit.
Fully furnished, etc. etc.
Cons:
Only a shower. No bathtubs :(
Utilities aren't handled by ventana, they're handled by whoever decides to nut up and take the responsibility first. Good luck getting your roommate's payments on time though, and it goes on your credit record, not theirs. And if you miss a bill and they disconnect your gas, it'll likely be a week before you start getting hot water again.
Visitor parking can be lacking at times. Probably about 20-30 spaces available for them to park.
Visitor curfews are kind of weak, but then, it is student housing.
Mstar. Biggest con for these apartments. To those that don't know, they're the cable/internet provider for Ventana and they're completely oblivious. The TV will glitch and freeze for a couple seconds every few minutes for one, but mainly it's their customer support. Our internet service was down for TWO MONTHS recently. I was plotting murder. Other times have seen the internet down for weeks at a time, but thankfully, it doesn't happen too often.
I swear the walls are made out of pure lead. I can set up a $120 wireless router in my bedroom that my laptop won't pick up 10 feet away.
Had the UVU women's volleyball team on the floor above us this last semester. Every morning at around 7 they were either doing jumping jacks or throwing bricks at the floor.
The price. It's gone up like $30 since I started living here. With utilities it's going to be around $400 a month next semester. Too heavy for me; moving out next month.
Roommates. I hate having them. WTB a studio.
Live here if you have the money(although I heard that that new, gigantic complex on University Avenue in Provo is nice, and accepting UVU students now). Dunno where I'm going. Might rent a condo.
