A horrible place to live

I find it interesting that the overall 'positive' rating of these apartments is 16%. That says a lot. I recently moved out of Village Park Apartments after living there for one year. I had the most horrific rental experience in my life. First of all, the staff at Village Park are completely incompetent at their jobs. They are extremely unhelpful and uneducated about what their responsibilities entail. The management has switched over several times during the year I lived there, and therefore, there is a lot of confusion and miscommunication that happens.
As a warning to all prospective renters, there are not many apartment complex's in the area that allow pets, unfortunately, and so we had to settle for Village Park solely on that reason.
Here are a couple of examples of our experience:
Our written 60-day notice (the ONLY complex I have ever had to give 60 days rather than 30) was 'misplaced' by the office staff. I had asked the receptionist if I needed a date stamp or a receipt to prove I had turned in my notice. She said she would put it in our tenant folder immediately, and therefore didn't need a receipt. Then she lost our notice. It was never filed into our folder, and it was never entered into the computer. They then demanded that we pay an extra two months because they had no proof that we had turned in our notice. After several days of going back and forth with management (and threatening to take them to court) , they agreed to look for our notice and ended up finding it--it had been misfiled. We received no apologies from them. We ended up having to give them a second notice because they didn't believe my story. Always ask for a dated receipt!!
Then, during our last month, as we were in the process of moving out, they abruptly changed the lock on our apartment and took the remaining items we had in there out, because they 'thought' we were all moved out. We showed up to move more of our property out, couldn't get into our apartment, and when they opened it up for us, everything was gone. They took two mountain bikes as well as other large valuable items without contacting us or asking us for permission to enter our apartment--which is illegal. Basically, they broke in and entered without permission, and then stole our property and put it in storage somewhere. We were legally bound to the apartment until the end of the month and legally held the keys until the end of the month. They acted before we scheduled a final walk through. They saw that we had mostly moved out and decided to get the apartment ready earlier than the end of the month to 'double' rent, which is also illegal. This type of illegal, shady, and morally wrong practice is common with this staff. They do not care about their tenants, and do not care about resolving any issues. I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Advocate to report these idiotic people.

I think it's kinda of funny how who ever wrote this review-- how big of a pain in the ass this person sounds. I almost feel bad for the management having to deal with this person!!!! This person must not have a life and these issues that are wrote about sound a little far out there. Looks like you where just trying to get your deposit back some how. Good job on the playing the poor me card!!! Life must be hard for you!!!!

In response to the comment above, if you had to pay an extra month in rent, were legally bound to the apartment, and management had taken the liberty to enter it illegally, without your permission, have the locks changed, and take out your belongings, wouldn't you be upset? Excuse me for following the rules and then getting dumped on. By the way, we didn't end up getting all of our stuff back (they 'misplaced' some of it). Do you think that's fair? And in regards to the deposit. Doesn't every one try to get their deposit back? I don't really think you have an opinion to make in this matter. In fact, if you are sitting around reading all of these reviews and commenting on them, it sounds like you have just about as much free time as I do. I guess we should BOTH get a life, huh? Oh, and it's "written", not "wrote".

I agree with you 1000% anomymous47!!! They entered out apartment illegally also after we had moved out but while we still legally held the keys. We had a dresser mysteriously disappear after their maintenance man came in without permission and painted the inside of our front door. They are they most dishonest group of people I have ever had the displeasure of renting from! I'm sure it is the management that is writing these 'rebuttals' to the complaints...I guess it gives them something to do!

I agree that its the management writing back these responses. No one in their right mind would ever stand up for this place. I rented from 'Hells Village' and couldnt agree more that these people are the most crooked and unhonest people Ive ever dealt with. (I went thru April and Penny -- uhhh!) I ended up paying $80.00 an HOUR for the cleaning lady to clean up the apartment after me and family cleaned it immaculate.

By the way I have rented from the same management company at a different property and read your lease they have permission to enter at any time. You're an idiot!

These responses are obviously written by the management or employees of Village Park.
