Do not live here

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004

When we were first married, Roberta Linn seemed like a great idea. It looked nice, and was within 3 blocks of campus. I don't know what happened in the two years that we lived there, even though ownership and management did not change, the apartments did. The apartments began to fall apart. The attic is not properly vented so there is moisture in the walls resulting in massive mold breakouts in any dark corners, which management blamed on us. I bought a humidity monitor and the humidity never rose above 35% which is not enough to foster mold without something else being wrong.
The owner/manager is a jerk. He thinks a lot of himself and not much of college students. The rest of the office staff is nice and tries to be helpful but are limited by the manager. Maintenance does not get done in a timely fashion. Our microwave broke and instead of just replacing it right away, we had to wait 4 days for a tech to come look at it and determine that is needed to be replaced and then another 3 days for the replacement to show up.
Noise is a joke. The ceilings are paper thin; I could seriously quote to you some of the conversations our upstairs neighbors had.
We were in the back of the U shape and so our bedroom had the misfortune of facing the inner courtyard. So anyone that came home late and made any noise getting into their apartment woke us up. They also decided, 3 months before we moved out, to light up the courtyard like a three ring circus. I have photographs taken from inside our bedroom at 2am with the blinds closed and we may as well have the noon day sun in our bedroom, it was ridiculous. The other 'nice' thing about our bedroom windows facing the courtyard was that a walkway passed right in front of our bedroom window and so people would be walking by literally inches from where we slept. A little disconcerting to say the least! Also people would lock their bikes to the walkway right in front of our windows, obstructing any view we had and just causing a hassle. Management of course always talked like they were going to do something about the bikes and lights but never did.
FYI: Rent goes up $10 or so every year.
The garbage is a mess. By the end of the week, the dumpster is overflowing and usually trash gets everywhere in the parking lot and no one cleans it up.
There are also tons of fire code problems as people leave bikes, BBQ's and assorted junk on the narrow walkways in front of their doors. Not only is it a fire code hazard, but a hassle to try and walk by.

There are a few good things about RL. Parking is not a problem. You get a tag for one underground and one above ground spot, but it is not enforced as there is ample parking so you can park underground most everyday if you want. The only problem is if you want to pull out of the lot, it is a basically blind turn if there is a car parked on the street, which there almost always is.
It is close to campus, but its more expensive and less value than other apartments even closer to campus.
We did get our entire deposit back (minus required carpet cleaning fee) after we did a good job cleaning, which I was grateful for.

For LDS Couples: The student ward when we were there was rather snooty and aloof, but the family ward that covers the same area was great.

All in all, it started out nice, but went down the tubes in a hurry, especially our second year there. I would defiantly recommend a pass on this one.
