Don't make the same mistake I did.....

I thought I had finally found the perfect apartment when I looked at Cobble Creek in SLC. Gated, duck pond, decent landscaping, pretty girls working in the office--what else does a guy need'
I would find out very quickly (on the day I moved in, in fact) that the place was far from what I had expected. I had to call maintenance as soon as I walked in because my place was so drastically different from the model I was shown prior to signing the lease. Several of the drawers didn't open/close, the fixtures in the tub were so old that they were literaly crumbling, toilet seat was in two pieces and barely hanging on, one of the corners in the bedroom had a large urine stain on the carpet where apperantly a pet had been going potty, etc. As disgusting as this is, I was completely unprepared for finding live maggots crawling in a puddle of brown liquid when I heard a noise behind the fridge and decided to move it aside.
I had to get out of there! Unfortunately I was told that I couldn't switch units because mine was the last one available and if I decided to leave they would look at it as a broken leave and fine me accordingly.
I decided to tough it out. "I'm a guy afterall and I don't need much", I told myself. And I would have been happy if it had ended there.
I don't even remember all the idiotic and degrading things I had to bear in that one year at Cobble Creek so I'll just name a few.......construction people destroyed the fruit trees on my balcony which I've been growing from seed when they decided to paint them along with the building, took 2 weeks to get a water stopper for the tub when the original metal fixtures finally broke completely, the stopper didn't fit, caught Cobble Creek in a lie when I found out how many units were actually free, they offered me $20 in exchange for my permission to do some maintenance in the attic above my unit but when I came to sign I was told that they had already done what they wanted but if I didn't provide my signature anyway there would be a penalty, it goes on and on.
Well, I'm glad to say that I moved out after that one year but that process was a bummer in itself. Up until that point I had been more or less satisfied with the work maintenance did then I called them out. On my last day there, however, I came home (maintenance was there just that morning while I was away at work to do a final inspection) to discover the smell of human feces in the apartment. It didn't take me long to discover that the maintenance guy had used the bathroom and had forgotten to flush. When I called the front desk to complain, I was told to simply "flush the toilet" as a remedy. How much can one person take'!'
My last complaint is that when I turned over my keys I was asked to hand over much more than I was originally given--door key, 2 gate cards, laundry key, pool key, and one more, I don't remember. Anyway, I didn't get 3 of the above when I moved in and they wanted to charge me $40/each. That doesn't even include the $420 they wanted for fixing all the damage that was there when I moved in and couldn't get them to fix (urine stain, non-functioning drawers, and the rest), I don't like to argue, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay those con artists another cent.
On the bright side you get a little candy bar or pouch of popcorn along with a letter telling you how much they care about you, but when you look at the big picture, it makes you want to pull your hair out.
If you are considering this place, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

you should check your lease agreement! Most companies give you a 30 day guarantee...call the office manager

What a rotten thing they did to you. Me and my friends are going to go do an undercover investigation on them as part of our class assignment. We're going to see if they will pull the bait and switch on us so we can video document it and put it on Youtube.

Thanks for responding to my review and I'm glad that there are those that haven't had the same experiences as I have at Cobble Creek. At the same time I feel the need to explain some things you misunderstood Sara. First, if you read my post carefully you'll notice that I specifically referred to "maintenance" being performed in the attic, not installing insulation; the maintenance was specific to select units, which included mine, whereas the insulation was a complex-wide job. As for staying there for a year, this is the duration I signed the lease for. I DID read my lease but was told I would incur penalties if I left, even if it WAS in the first 72 hours. All these things are explained in my original post if you care to read it again. Now let me tell you something.......what I said is 100% true regardless of whether you had a similar experience or not. I am not one that enjoys confrontation, but Cobble Creek treated me very badly and I'm glad that there exist sites (with or without reviewer ratings as you suggested) such as this because otherwise people like me would have zero recourse against dishonest business practices. The only thing I don't understand is why you are angry at ME. Let's say we each bought a car at the same dealership and, while mine was a good one, yours turned out to be a lemon. Should I get pissed when you start complain? The only explanation I can find is that you work for Cobble Creek. If that is the case, you need to disclose it.

To all of the complainers, you should feel lucky there isn't a site where anyone could go on and rate you, I'm sure it would be an eye opener. I lived at Cobble Creek during the same time the last reviewer did 2007-2008 and I loved it. The last review claims he was offered $20.00 to do work in the attic??? WHAT!! There must be a lot of things you have a hard time understanding because what they were doing was improving the insulation in the attics for an energy saving program the utility companies were offering and there were no penalties or money transfers involved. Duh!!! It??????s funny that you think the apartment you rented was so horrible, yet you still stayed for a year. I have a hard time believing all of those issues you said you had were true. Read your lease?????? they offer a 72-hour clause if you are not satisfied with your apartment. I loved this place. The maintenance staff was wonderful and the ladies in the office were nothing but helpful and nice. Readers don??????t believe all the negative things you hear about on all of these apartment complexes on this web site. Again, if there was a site where individual people could be reviewed, I think most would be surprised that they are not as cool as they thought. Sara S.

Cobble Creek Management would like to thank you for your review. We apologize if we have done anything that would leave an unpleasant taste in your mouth. However, we would like to explain some things in these reviews and several responses. We do not pull the "bait and switch" trick. We are happy to show any apartments that are ready before you move in. We do everything we can to make sure that all apartments are ready to be moved into before the resident arrives for move in. We do realize that sometimes things can get over looked (we are only human and do make mistakes). However, we try to fix things as soon as they are brought to our attention. We have not heard from this resident regarding his apartment condition until now. We understand that you do not like confrontation but we don't realize anything is wrong in your apartment unless you tell us. We would have been more than accommodating to the issues that you have had with the condition you received your apartment in, and tried to make you as happy as possible. As far as the move in guarantee, it currently states in the lease agreement that you have 48 hours to get out of your lease agreement with a simple 30 day notice with out any fees. When the buildings were being painted notices were sent out in advance that painting crews would be painting the trim on all buildings. We made everyone aware that they need to either cover their belongings on the patio or move them inside for the day. We apologize if your items were painted. We are extremely confused as to what you are referring to with the issue in the attic. We do not need entrance into your apartment to get into the attic or a signature. All attic access is located outside your apartment. As for maintenance defecating in your apartment, you must be mistaken. They DO NOT do this nor have they ever. They have several bathrooms located throughout the common areas to use not to mention they have two maintenance shops on site with bathrooms. Also, we would have never told you to "just flush it." If something as extreme as this would have happened we would have immediately called all maintenance staff to the office and taken disciplinary action against the maintenance tech that went into your apartment and sent over our housekeeper to clean everything. We think this is disgusting and would have bent over backward to accommodate your needs. We have never had this complaint before and do not intend on ever having this issue arise. We pride ourselves on the maintenance and customer service that we provide to each tenant. Unfortunately, mistakes do happen and we try to do everything, within our parameters, to fix the issue. We invite everyone that have or are having issues to please come and talk to us about it. We can fix any issues that you may have. We are not here to make your life miserable or to cause stress. We would like to thank everyone that has posted or responded to this review. We like to hear feedback whether good or bad so that we can improve our services. This website, among others, is a great learning tool for us. We take these reviews seriously and either continue things that are working for everyone or modify our procedures to ensure that everyone leaves with a pleasant taste in their mouth.

While it is encouraging to see that you (Cobble Creek) care enough about your image to read these reviews and consider improving the way you do business, a more appropriate time to handle complaints is when they happen. You'll forgive me when I say that your apology sounds somewhat hollow as I saw no remorse on your part during my entire tenancy. At this point, it doesn't take much for you to say that I must be mistaken, or that you don't know what I'm talking about, or even that I didn't complain enough (though one may find it disturbing to know that all those times weren't enough). How hard would it have been to check a work order and see which of your employees went to the bathroom in my unit? Not hard, but you would rather deny that it happened. Or to get a correct stopper for the tub from a hardware store? Or any number of the issues I brought up in my review? I won't make assumptions about the quality of your personnel or the availability of funds at Cobble Creek, but I CAN say that the willingness to address problems is most certainly lacking. The staff would much rather try to convince you that the problem does not exist or that the tenant is at fault altogether. If you are sincere about not wanting to "leave a bad taste", read what you've written in response and put it into action instead of trying to appear as something you're not. This is the honest way to improve your image and will undoubtedly have the best results.
