Best apartment experience so far.

We lived at Irving Heights for two years and loved it. The rent was reasonable, Bettye was easy to work with, and nothing beats the balconies (we were on the sixth floor with a mountain view we haven't found a comparable balcony since). The kitchen did leave something to be desired. It's small with old appliances and no natural light, but it's workable.
Our apartment was always comfortable we never felt any powerful drafts in the winter (although summer on the sixth floor required extra A/C). The maintenance did fall a bit in quality towards the end of our stay, and we did start hearing others from our bathroom, which didn't seem to happen for the first year and a half. Other than the bathroom, though, the construction is solid in spite of its age; we almost never heard our neighbors except for the occasional loud music which is bound to happen in any apartment.
The location is also terrific; Sugarhouse is by far my favorite neighborhood in SLC (although I was there before clueless city officials decided to demolish the historic Sugarhouse block and leave a gaping hole but that's another rant). Irving Heights is on a fairly quiet side street, and we were able to walk to Westminster, coffee shops, grocery stores, and boutiques. One problem, though, is that property crime is rampant in this area; while we lived in the Sugarhouse area, we were robbed 4 times in 1 year once at Irving Heights, where our car was broken into. However, that goes with the area. But an intercom system at Irving Heights deters would-be burglars from your apartment.
Overall, Irving Heights was the best renting experience we've had, and I highly recommend it.
